Dussehra festival has a special meaning and different reasons for different people to celebrate. In some parts of India, people celebrate Dussehra for the victory of Lord Rama, one of the avatars of Lord Vishnu, over the ten-headed demon king Ravana of Lanka, who kidnapped Rama’s wife Sita. And some others celebrate the victory of Goddess Durga Maa over the demon Mahishasura. People celebrate this festival with grace and ethnicity irrespective of how the festival is being celebrated by different people. 

The various ways in which the Dussehra festival is being celebrated all over India like Dussehra is celebrated as Navratri as a festival of 9 days in Gujarat State. Garba is the folk dance form of Gujarat that plays the most important role in this festival. People keep the vibe around to the tune of folk songs with multi-coloured sticks. This marks the centre of attraction to the festival. After people worship the Goddess, enjoy playing Garba throughout the night. Both men and women get ready in traditional wear to play Garba, the traditional attires that are worn are Lehenga Choli for women and Kedia for men.

Dussehra in the Kullu town of Himachal Pradesh is celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm that holds a very special significance of festivity. The festival is celebrated for seven days in Kullu and is carried out uniquely and especially. People from Kullu worship Lord Raghunath at the fairground of Dhalpur Maidan. And also, people from nearby villages and cities bring the statues of different local Gods and Goddesses to this fairground in a holy procession loading the entire place with the joy of festivity for one whole week. 

Dussehra in Delhi is celebrated in regard to the defeat of the ten-headed demon king Ravana by Lord Rama. During this event, all the temples are decorated beautifully. One of the greatest attractions to the Dussehra festival all over the city in Delhi is Ram Leela. Especially for Ram Leela, special sets are constructed resembling Ayodhya, Ashoka Vatika, and Ravana Lanka. Various actors from India enact the roles of Lord Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, and all other characters that exist in Ramayana reliving again. Ram Leela is a theatrical version of Ramayana and its stories, morals, ethics, is one of the most beautiful experiences one can have in his entire life in Delhi. At various locations around Delhi, the Idols of all three demons, including Ravana, Meghanad, and Kumbhakaran are set on fire to symbolise the victory of Lord Rama. And also, there are many places in Delhi, where Pandals of goddess Durga Maa are created and most of them keep a fast for nine days following all rituals.  

Dussehra in Telangana is known as Vijayadashmi, is one of the most important Hindu festivals to be celebrated. This festival is celebrated across all the temples of Goddess Durga Maa in the state in every district. All the nine days of Navratri are celebrated in resemblance to nine forms of Goddess Durga Maa and offer prayers. During this time of the festival, In Telangana, the newly married ones are invited to the house by the bride’s family and are offered gifts and sweets. On the ninth day of Navratri, that is the last day, students keep their books and all others clean and keep their tools to perform Ayudha Pooja for well-being and are then taken back on the tenth day of Vijayadashami. In Hyderabad, large idols of Goddess Durga Maa, after performing all the rituals and worshipping her with devotion for nine days, are immersed in watermarking the centre of attraction for the capital city.
