Indian Space Research Organisation is one of India's most premier organisations, making the world stand in awe as they achieve what people thought was impossible for a country like ours. It is only natural then that many students aspire to join ISRO one day so they can contribute to space research themselves and serve the country. Here's how you can get into ISRO

1. Strengthen your basics

We'll get to the how to get into ISRO later, but lets first understand the importance of brushing up your knowledge of physics, especially Fluid Mechanics, Kinematics and the works, as these are most important in space research. Don't worry about the time taken by it, you can chase your dream of being in ISRO right after your 12th. The how is what this article is all about.

Having a dream of starting a band and making it big is a dream that isn't uncommon to the young students across the country, however, very few put the effort, the dedication and the sacrifices required to go that extra mile required to achieve their goals. It is incredible, then, to know about the bands that are forged with the hopes and dreams of students and go on to survive the fires of their professional lives.

Among one such bands, is TAP - The Acoustic Project. Formed in 2013 by students of St. Joseph's College of Commerce, the band is currently in it's 4th year, with the students of yesterday becoming professionals of today and yet retaining their love for music. We speak with Pilith Pericho, one of the two vocalists of the band about their music and their journey so far.

"Six of us started the band back in college," says Pilith Pericho, "we grew to 9 members, but now we're back to 6. Of the 6, 3 of us were from the same class."

The current line up of the band has Jonathan Adriel on the guitars, John D'souza on the percussion, Peter Alvin who is a beatboxer, and Tony Joy, Adrian Jeffery, Pilith Pericho on the vocals.

We ask Pilith about their journey as a band and how much their music has changed since inception, "Our music has definitely changed, it's matured over the years. We, as a band, have grown these past 4 years and we'll continue improving our sound for the days to come," says Pilith, "back then we were jamming wherever we could, today we have our own studio where we jam" he goes on to explain.

Speaking on musical influences, Pilith spoke at length about where they drew inspiration from and what inspired them when they first started out, "For a time, Pentatonix was one of our biggest influences," he says, referring to the American a cappella group, "but as the years went by, we started drawing inspiration from other artists as well, like Coldplay and Ed Sheeran. Think of it this way, we draw inspirations from what's trending right now and we work with it."

Pilith was quite happy with the crowd at TEDx GITAM Hyderabad, "The crowd was amazing and lively, whatever vibes we were trying to give to the audience through our music, we were getting the same vibes back from them, and when that happens you know your show is going to be memorable" he says with a smile.

The conversation shifts towards discussing student bands, with us asking Pilith what his advice would be for student bands who want to make it big, because TAP itself started as a student band.

Pilith pondered over the question for a second and then said, "I've seen so many students, students who are incredibly talented in music, stop performing after college is done because they choose to focus on their professional lives. Of course there's nothing wrong with that, but it makes me think of what they could have done," he pauses, "I think the most important part for students in bands today who'll graduate soon, is to never lose the music in you. Always keep music as a part of yourself, a part of your identity, and the rest will fall in place. No matter what happens, never let that music in you go."

Creative fields are not as easy as they appear to be, and The Acoustic Project is not stranger to this fact. Pilith, who currently works in Goldman Sachs as a senior analyst, hopes that one day the members of the band can quit their jobs and go into music full time. The message here is clear: life goes on but as long as you believe in something, you fight for it, tooth and nail if you must, to achieve your goals.

From performing fantastic songs to being a shining example of chasing your dreams no matter what, this is one band students must look up to for their sheer dedication to the craft. While China's rapid growth in the international electronics market needs an article of its own, today we take a look at Chinese phone maker Xiaomi's Mi Band 2 Smart Wristband and Activity Tracker.

The saying 'You get what you pay for' is true for the Mi Band 2, without the negative connotation attached to it. This is a very good product for the price it's asking, so let us take a look at it's features before deciding to buy it or not, shall we?

Features:

It comes with a heart rate sensor, a display, activity and motion tracker and is a great and cheap alternative to the more expensive (but arguably more accurate and better) Fitbit. The Mi Band 2 also vibrates when you get calls and messages, if you prefer that as well.

Hitting the gym with the Mi Band 2 showed that while there is a margin of error, it is offset by it's incredible price.

The alerts you get can be configured using the app that manages the Band, if you have an active online social life then we highly recommend you turn most notifications off as the constant vibrations can get quite annoying.

Battery:

The Mi Band 2 has an impressive battery life of 8 days on a single charge. Charge once and forget it for over a week, and with the Mi Band 2 pod plopping out with ease and fitting snugly back in the band, it is easy to charge it and start your day again the very next day.

Final thoughts:

It's perfect for the asking price, but not without cons. It is not waterproof, for instance, and the accuracy might be an issue with some users. If you're a power user, your best bet is still the fitbit, but Mi Band 2 can do almost all the things Fitbit can, and for a price nearly 90% lower. I'd say that is a decent trade off, so go ahead and buy the Mi Band 2 by clicking here.
"}]

It's always a fantastic idea to earn some cash on the side over the summer vacations just so you can stay ahead of the game and don't have to depend on your parents for money to blow over parties with your friends. But of course, once you start earning, you appreciate the hard work put behind earning the cash you get in hand, and that builds responsibility. However, if you want to play this game on hard more, just try moving out of the house and earning money, paying for rent and food, bills and other stuff.

That being said, here's how you can earn some extra buck over the summer, while also learning the meaning of dignity of labour.

1. Set up a small soda shop

The summer is eventually going to burn us all, but until then, a little soda shop that uses one of those soda machines that are easy to carry around will not only ensure you earn some cash on the side, but also make you appreciate the hard work that goes into the process. It builds character, honest.

In a survey last year, the employability assessment company Aspiring Minds found out that only 7% engineers are actually employable and in a survey conducted among Computer Science and IT Engineering students last week, they found out that only 4.77 per cent candidates can write the correct logic for a program. In other words, only 4.77 students meet the basic requirement for any IT job. In a country that where about 2,50,000 IT jobs are created every year, this is a shocking fact.

It was also noted in the study that while more than 60 per cent candidates cannot even write code that compiles, only 1.4 per cent can write functionally correct and efficient code.

Why is this problem arising despite having about 3300 engineering colleges in the country?

The simplest answer to this is the combination of outdated syllabi that the colleges have; the emphasis on getting marks and clearing the exam as opposed to learning the subject; the fact that Indian college system emphasises more on submitting hand written assignments for marks adds to the problem as most of the students' time is gone in writing these assignments, the time which they can spend in developing their skills; and the fact that the IT companies never or rarely communicate their requirements to colleges.

For instance, languages like Ruby and PHP which are the need of the hour in the web programming field are not even taught in colleges. The hiring companies, who often recruit in bulk, don't bother communicating what knowledge pool that they exactly require, to the colleges. Also, based on the way companies recruit from colleges and filter the applicants, they take it for granted that the students make an effort to learn more than what the college teaches them.

A CSE student, on condition of anonymity, says "We learn the basics of programming but nothing beyond that. I learnt a lot of things like Python and Android development by myself. The basic Java that I learnt in college helped me but what I feel is that the curriculum needs to change drastically to suit the growing needs. When I got interested in IoT, I realised I have to learn Python as most of the programming related to that is done in that language."

Android programming is also a hot requirement but while colleges teach Java, they don't teach the framework and other technical aspects which are required to build applications. While some colleges are now adding these much-in-use programming languages in the curriculum, most colleges still follow syllabus that was designed about 20 years ago.

The fact that there are a lot of certificate-issuing institutes in areas like Ameerpet, only adds to the whole problem. The solution here seems to be a perfect sync between colleges and companies, with the companies conducting skill development programs or some such, depending on the feasibility and the colleges updating their syllabus to suit the fast paced world. While the syllabi that are there in colleges now is absolutely required for students, considering the fact that most of it teaches basics, a tweak in the syllabus can be done, with more emphasis on the new technologies.

txt
rich_1492854073576

The Common Writing Exam (CWE) is held for recruitments into various PSU banks, or government run banks, with the sole exception of SBI which has an exam of its own. Conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection, the exam is also referred to as the IBPS exam after the institute that conducts it.

In a previous post on stuMagz, we spoke about how government jobs are highly coveted and methods to get one. In this post, we'll talk about securing a job in various PSU Banks of India and how to effectively prepare for the CWE or IBPS exam.

1. Know Your Exam

Get it? It's a play on Know Your Customer (KYC), please don't hate me if the joke is not funny. Jokes aside, however, it is important that you understand what you're going to study and compartmentalise to prepare accordingly. The CWE has the following: English, Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude. The exam is conducted for 1 hour, so it is important for you to break down the time spent on each section and maintain your time advantage so you aren't rushed into marking wrong answers in a last minute panic. All of this can't be done by preparing for the exam overnight, obviously.

2. Strengthen Your Reasoning

It is a well agreed upon fact that reasoning in the IBPS exam is your ticket to cracking the exam, because this section has the potential of giving you full marks, if you regularly brush up your reasoning.

3. Analysing Quantitatively

This section can turn to your advantage if you are good with your way around math and enjoy solving mathematical problems, but despite the best calculations, sometimes things can go wrong, and as such it doesn't enjoy the same priority Reasoning does in high scoring, however, being good at Quantitative Analysis is a sure shot way of guaranteeing you cracking the exam.

4. Manage Your Time

Three sections in one hour might sound easy but trust us when we say this that it is not, you need to be at the top of your game to finish the paper on time and come out on time with a smile on your face, and you can do this by proper time management. Design a little chart for yourself where you assign the three topics some amount of minutes out of the 60 you have. For example, Reasoning, due to it's high scoring nature, requires 20 to 25 minutes.

Candidates should also consider starting their exam with English, as it is the quickest to solve and can be a boost to you if you are good at English in ensuring you score marks. English should not take more than 10 minutes. Divide the rest between Reasoning and Quant.

5. Solve Mock Papers Before The Paper Mocks You

None of the above points will matter in the end if you do not solve mock papers like a person possessed. Whatever you do, no matter how much you prepare, all of it is useless until and unless you solve mock papers and prepare yourself for the upcoming exam effectively. Not only will mock tests help you understand the nature of the questions, it is the ultimate test of your time management: this is where you practice your time management skills so that you don't falter in the exam itself.

1. Sharing lunch with friends

There's always that one guy who does not bring lunch at all and eats from everyone's boxes. More often that not, you end up being that guy because you forget to get your lunch along with you. It forges strong bonds between friends.
