I've been studying in CBIT for more than three years now and I've learnt a lot of things; both in and out of class. Mostly out of class. And I don't mean typical platitudes like 'make friends', 'go to classes', etc. I'm talking about the hardcore, gritty tips that actually do work. Here goes.

1. Attendance Woes

At least 64% (fake statistic) of the students in college constantly worry about their attendance, regularly keep tabs on it and complain aloud about it not getting updated. After six semesters of going through all this, I've figured out how to beat the system. The attendance taken at the beginning of the sem is updated pretty regularly with all the enthusiasm of a new start. The attendance towards the end of the sem, however, is updated with all the regularity of college buses being on time. So, attend classes regularly the first month or so and keep your attendance percentage high. Towards the end of the semester, you can bunk more often and still keep your attendance percentage high since that part won't get updated quickly, sometimes not at all.

2. The Nightmare of Engineering Drawing

Every engineer has to go through this god awful subject in which you carry your drafter and chart box to college once or twice a week and sit through three hours of meticulously drawing figures. While some people enjoy this, it was a perfect nightmare for me. The secret I figured out is fairly double-edged, so try it out at your own risk. The charts to be submitted every week add up to about ten charts and count towards only a small percentage of your final score. I decided to skip the whole assignment charts thing and directly finish the final exam drawing that counted for the majority of the final score. Instead of having to rigorously draw up ten charts plus the last one, I decided to only do the one that counted more than four times the ten put together. Of course, this involves compromising a little on your grade, which is why only those who really, REALLY dislike drawing can consider this.

3. Be In Touch With The Other Sections

A lot of the popular branches are divided into sections, with different faculty for a lot of the subjects. Keep in touch with people from the other sections and be aware of where they're at in their subjects. You can borrow notes and have study groups with them, taking advantage of the fact that they have different professors.

txt
rich_1496478333573

4. Studying For The Vivas

A lot of students fear the viva more than the practicals themselves. An easy way to help study properly for this takes advantage of the fact that in CBIT, we have the second midterm exams just before the practicals. Since vivas are taken from the syllabus of the subject, take short notes while studying for the mids. You can study these again just before that subject's practical exam, keeping what you studied earlier fresh in your mind. This is extremely helpful.

txt
rich_1496478567743

5. The Long, Long Bus Rides

CBIT is pretty far away from civilisation and a lot of students have to sit in the college bus for an hour or more to go to college, and the same back. While it may be tempting to use this time to listen to music or sleep, don't do that. Instead, use this time to learn something new and acquire a new skill. It'll give a sense of accomplishment and you'll be surprised at just how much you've learned in four years doing this. They'll look great on your resumes too.

As your friends how many of them actually watch TV on TV anymore. Personally, I haven't watched TV for nearly a decade at home unless I need it for the PlayStation, there simply is no point for me to watch TV anymore when all my media content is on my laptop, or my desktop computer, which I love and will defend until my last breath.

Jokes apart, however, it truly is a sign of the times that many of today's youth are moving away from traditional TV and to online media, due to various reasons which deserves a blog post of its own, which I will get to later, but to focus on the task at hand, it is only natural that in an age when online content is king is the age where we adopt technologies like the Amazon Fire TV Stick, so we can go back to watching media content back on TV, except this time it is the online content you've grown to love.

Trust me on this one, I have an impressive monitor for my desktop PC, but watching Interstellar on the TV was a surreal experience; the bigger screen combined with an impressive sound system provide for an excellent experience. With an Amazon Firestick, I can now stream the media content over WiFi to my TV directly, without having to depend on any extra connections, or hoping that my TV is internet enabled. All it needs is an HDMI port, and of course, you'll need a WiFi router at home.

The Firestick boasts of an impressive 1.3Ghz processor and an 8GB memory, combined with a RAM of 1GB, which on its own is quite impressive, but considering the size of the device and it's various functions, it is indeed quite a marvel. The processor and memory come in handy to run apps directly from the Firestick and connect to the internet.

The remote control that comes bundled with it has a very impressive voice recognition software, which picks up words even with accents, an impressive feat after years of yelling at Siri and Google Now and desperately hoping it understands what you say. Just speak the name of the TV show into the remote after turning out voice recognition and et voila! it works like a charm. It's snappy, responsive, and impressive.

As with everything in the world, it is not without problems. Amazon loves marketing their products through their services and devices, but they could definitely use a reminder every now and then that Amazon Prime is not the only On-Demand Video Service available on the device (can you imagine the horror if we were only stuck with Amazon Prime? All their content in India is censored!), services like Netflix are not prominently featured (but still there, of course) to favour pushing Amazon's own Prime Video service to the forefront.

Another minor gripe I have with the device is the need to sign in to your Amazon account to use it. A great way to be connected to your Prime Video content, no doubt, but I fail to see why I need to do it to use any service at all. It is intrusive and annoying.

Final Thoughts:

It's a great device that we recommend, and unlike its competitor from Google, the Firestick does not depend on the power of the device that is blasting the media content onto it. The little device is a powerhouse of its own, considering its size. If you've been looking for something to blast your content on the TV you have at home for a while, the Amazon Fire TV Stick might be just what you're looking for. However, if you would much prefer to watch your media content on the computer, you really don't require it.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow once said that the heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night, a saying that applies to the struggle to achieve a separate statehood to Telangana as well. Starting back in 1955, the struggle was kept alive by the sons and daughters of the land, carrying out without faltering and without fear, all the while their companions slept or ignored them.

This is why Telangana is not merely a state carved out of a much bigger state for administrative purpose, but the end result of a struggle that claimed many lives, received many wounds, and its people, their spirits broken, until such a day when they could look up again when a leader of the masses stepped up and took charge. It was then, at this moment, when the people of the land took charge of the protest once again, and didn't stop fighting until the cycle was repeated.

It is no coincidence then, that the leader to break this cycle was the charismatic K. Chandrashekar Rao. Him, along with close aides and family, led the struggle, and gave the people a leadership to believe in. He gave the people of Telangana a leader they could trust, and he delivered.

On this day, in 2014, Telangana was born, and when it comes to newborns, utmost care must be taken to ensure it grows up to be strong. The people of Telangana knew what was needed, and the people of Telangana chose the TRS party to shape the state in its most crucial years, a choice which will shower the state with positive blessings for years to come.

Under the excellent leadership of KCR, and with his son, K. T. Rama Rao at the helm of the departments of Information Technology, Urban development and Textiles, the state has seen a rapid spurt of growth, and Telangana's crown jewel, Hyderabad, the city we all love, has only grown prosperous thanks to their efforts.

Telangana State since its formation has performed exceptionally well in various fields, both social and economic. Telangana's IT/ITES exports hit a whopping Rs. 85,470 crore, with a goal of Rs. 1,20,000 by 2020, as said by KTR. This means that our current growth rate in IT exports is 13.85%, which is 4% higher than the national average. KTR himself has been tirelessly working for Telangana, speaking with CEOs of major multinational companies as well as keeping a close eye on the IT industry in the state. From bringing development to the state to navigating the serpentine halls of politics, KTR, much like his father and Chief Minister KCR, has been an instrumental factor in changing the lives of the people of Telangana, bringing much needed development that focuses only on the state.

If Telangana is the idea, KTR is the messiah. He's the messenger that brings the word of Telangana to the investors and people alike, so that in the future, the people of Telangana have something they could depend on. At the end of the day, it only seems fair that a struggle of so many years is only met with rapid development once the struggle is over, and it's time to act upon the hopes and dreams of the people who've believed in you. For the people, and for the martyrs, now and forever.
"}]

The best part about having awesome grandparents is that you get rewarded for every petty deed you do! One such home is mine. I lost my paternal grandparents few years ago and all that I am left with are my maternal grandparents who are teachers. My grandfather is a 70 year old retired government school headmaster and so is my grandmother who is about 65.

They have this strange habit of gifting us money whenever they visit us. This year during summer they visited us just for a day. To make them relaxed from the scorching heat they traveled in, I made them each a glass of lemonade as that was the best thing I could do in the kitchen! Then my sister and I sat with them and started discussing our recent accomplishments which were small but worth sharing with them.

It was evening and by then and my parents had returned from office and greeted my grandparents. Later, after dinner, we were just lazing around in the hall when we got an awesome idea of teaching my grandparents to transfer money through “paytm”. Quickly we downloaded the app and taught them. Though they were ambiguous at first they slowly learned to do it on their smartphones which we had gifted them on their wedding anniversary. They also learnt to book a cab which was almost like teaching a baby to use a dictionary. We were so happy that they could learn it just within an hour’s instruction and that was the end of the day.

Next morning by the time my sister and I woke up, my grandparents had already left for some family get together. That day when my mother returned from her office, we found a note on the bookshelf saying “open the biggest book”. We did, it was a dictionary to the irony, and we found three ₹2000/- notes inside that book. Immediately my mom called up my grandfather and asked if it was his gift. My grandfather gently replied “paytm may be useful but this is my style!” My mother then burst into a huge laugh and said “This habit of yours has never changed since my childhood!”

She then told the three of us who were already confused as hell that the bookshelf had always been my grandfather’s favorite place at home to hide money. That is the reason behind me describing my bookshelf as “obscurely wealthy”.
"}]

Masters in Business Administration is one of the greatest degrees a person can pick up, giving themselves a massive boost to their profile, and by extension, their career and their quality of life. Due to the nature of the program and the various types of people it attracts, it is only natural that there are variations of the degree and a difference in how fast you can graduate with a degree in MBA and a specialisation of your choosing. That being said, getting into the meat of the matter, it is important for us to understand the difference between 1-Year MBA course (or Executive MBA as we shall refer it from here) and the more traditional 2-Year MBA course.

The Executive MBA course is for working professionals who have an experience of 7 to 10 years or higher in the industry and often cannot afford to attend classes like the students of traditional MBA course do. It is also for those who wish to rejoin the workforce without taking a bigger break. In short, this is the perfect course for working professionals who have enough experience to navigate their way around the tiny details of the industry and are getting their degree to further their career, an admirable prospect, to say the least.

The traditional 2-Year MBA course offers students a chance to grow and get used to the industry work ethics and standards. You get to rub shoulders with the best and the brightest, network and grow as an individual and as a leader. It goes without saying that where you study will be the brand that will be associated with you, and the name of your college will open doors for you. So if you have to do an MBA, make sure you do your best to be picked by the best.

So, you may be wondering at this point, what are the pros and cons of the two courses.

Choosing Traditional MBA over Executive MBA,

The Pros:

The chance to grow is tremendous, the chance to network is even more so, the bonds you will make here will help you throughout the country, and sometimes even across the world. Networking is king, and the best way to use your MBA network is to build them over the course duration of the 2-Year MBA program

The 2-Year Course also allows freshly graduated students, or professionals with less than 5 or 7 years of work experience to equip themselves better to navigate the fine details of the corporate world. It will train them for a leadership role, giving them industry exposure and, provided you study in one of the top colleges, open many doors for you. Which brings us to the cons

The Cons:

In today's fast-paced world, even professionals with 2 to 4 years of work experience cannot afford to lose time by giving away 2 years of precious experience. This is a gap that is perfectly filled by Executive MBA, which we will get to now.
