There was this one time when I had to run around town looking for a particular supplement that I urgently needed but could not find anywhere. It wasn't a pressing issue and I wasn't sick or anything but the medical shops I visited were being particularly unhelpful and I was reaching my wits end. It took me a long time and frankly by the time I did find what I was looking for, most of the afternoon was gone and I'd missed my siesta and tea.
I really like my tea.
But it struck me that finding medicines should not be this hard, right? I mean, you go to a medical shop with hopes that the shop you prefer has the medicine you seek, so when it's not there in that shop, and even in the next shop, it is hard not to panic, especially when a medicine is urgently needed at all costs. Healthcare is, after all, literally a matter of life and death.
That's when I found out about Mapprr.

So what is MAPPRR? It celebrates “Ideas worth sharing”. TED is a global platform wherein little ideas from people who bring about a small change in the society are given a bigger stage so that their little ideas get acknowledged by a larger audience. It has distributed licenses to the people around the world, known as licensees, so that they can organize TED events in a local platform so that people with Ideas worth sharing can share their ideas locally. Its call TEDx. Officially “x” stands for TED multiplied. TED has many communities around the world which eventually fall under the same umbrella.

TED and TEDx are one of those events which do not need already celebrated speakers to spread ideas. These events won’t showcase people who already famous speakers or already established celebrities. This gives a stage to the local speakers who have little ideas which can bring about change in the lives of people and those who are not already famous or have little popularity.

If you do not believe the above words, let me give you some MONTHLY statistics.

385 TEDx TALKS, hosted in 77 countries, 290 talks featured on TED.com youtube channel with 3.26 million views a month.

What’s in it for you? The audience are so curated by the curators that they have a mixed variety. The audience consists of attendees who are there for the first time and others who come from various areas such as tech enthusiasts, businessmen, artists etc who have already attended a TEDx event. So here you will be exposed to a lot of learning and experience from your peers.

That being said about audience, now talk about the speakers. If you have watched any of the TED talks, there is nothing much new that you have to know. Speakers in TEDx events are chosen in accordance to the theme of the event. The speakers and ideas are curated in such a way that their ideas contribute something to the society and lives are people in general. Fortunately or unfortunately, the speakers need to have at least a small outcome of their ideas. For example, if you are working on decreasing the pollution levels in your city, you must have already achieved a smallest possible outcome in a small area to be qualified to talk at a TEDx event.

With all these at one place, you have fair chance you bump into at least one like minded person. TEDx events have a habit of asking you for the areas that you are interested in so that you can connected with others who have similar interests. In a nutshell, you can grow your network by connecting with your peers. More about TEDx events cannot be said in words in anymore. Go out there, find a TEDx event in your city or surroundings, register, attend the event and experience all that a TEDx event has to offer you. only myself, mind you, I don't want to kill my friends with my cooking - for which I keep a functional kitchen that is stocked with the bare essentials and some extra stuff that comes in handy whenever I want to cook whatever I want. Since most of you students are gonna be living on your own pretty soon or when you move abroad, there are some kitchen tips and essentials that you must remember and maintain at all times.
Now, I firmly believe that the Kitchen is the one area in the house that has to be perfect, without a single fault, because trust me nobody wants to deal with the panic of finding stuff you're missing when you're hungry and angry. It does not end well. Here's my advice.
1. Organise your kitchen:
The way to the heart is through the stomach, whether it is appreciation for good food or a heart attack. Since cooking is an essential skill that everyone should learn (yes boys, you folks too, your wives aren't going to cook for you), starting with knowing where items are placed in the kitchen is step number one. Observe the kitchen in your own home and notice how things are always kept in the same place. This is done so because it creates cohesion, allowing the process of cooking to proceed in a smooth flow that is not disrupted by frustrations of finding the stuff that you need. You certainly do not want to be hungry and looking for ingredients because you forgot where you put your stuff, even worse when you also have no money to Swiggy something.

2. Have a dustbin in the corner:
Preferably right next to the sink so you can dump stuff and also wash your hands asap. Predictably, a kitchen can get messy and create a lot of waste that has to be binned (although enterprising individuals can use this for recycling), and trust me when I say this, nobody enjoys a messy kitchen, it just ruins the mood. Get yourself a nice and small dustbin that goes with the kitchen aesthetics and a bigger one that you can dump all of this into.
I'm one of those weirdos that have a lot of appreciation for dustbins, so much so that even when I go out, I keep an eye out for them so I know where I can dump any trash that I carry with me. I once tried to dump my boyfriend in one of those but he didn't fit.
Jokes aside, there's plenty of cheap but fancy looking dustbins that match the theme you're going with for your kitchen at the local market (if you're around Hyderabad, check out the many China bazaars and the parody of those called Chinna Bazaar. Steel Racks to Big Racks:
Now, I'm not expecting a lot of you to own your own fancy independent houses in your early 20s just yet, unless you move to the US and get used to the kitchen system there (which is awesome, by the way), but the fact remains that a kitchen also comes with a ton of plates, cups and cutlery that has to be organised before someone (AKA me) freaks out about how messy the kitchen is. Modular kitchens are popular these days where you have racks you can pull out to store things and they make life a lot easier, not even kidding. But more often than not, you won't be seeing that until you can invest some money in building your own home.
So in exchange, again from your local bazaar, get some steel racks that can stack plates and the stuff you need for kitchen use in a neat and organised manner. Also at the local steel shop you should be able to find a big steel drying cage for the utensils that are freshly washed to dry up before you can re rack them again. The World Teacher, she insisted, had spoken through the body of his disciple Jesus 2,000 years ago and had made Mr. Krishnamurti his ''vehicle'' this time.
It came as a surprise then that he decided to dissolve the organisation in 1929, rejecting the notion of being a cult leader or a religious messiah, choosing instead to dedicate his life to true and unequivocal freedom of people around the world, the first step of which was rejecting all organised religion.
Jiddu Krishnamurthi might not be the first person to renounce their religion and societal identities in order to preach the fact that humans were all born equal, but he sure made it famous. I often wonder what he would think of social movements of the 21st century.
Some questions are simply not meant to be answered, I guess.
Here's to the man who rejected organised religion, social condition and politics in a quest to be free of the shackles and also lead fellow human beings into an age of being truly and unequivocally free.

txt
rich_1518670241254
I've always found it slightly sad that we are discouraged from ever reading about the social injustices of the world, of the social injustices that we commit on our fellow human beings. We always hear stories about lost civilisations in the heart of the sea or from outer space, but there has never been a single movie that has Afrofuturism as its setting.
Which is precisely why Black Panther is going to be an extremely significant movie and why I spent the last three paragraphs highlighting the need to understand social issues. Picking up right after the events of Captain America: Civil War, the movie will follow a young T'Challa as he returns from his adventure with the Avengers following a tragic death and learns what it means to be a King.
If you're curious about who the Black Panther is, T'Challa, the King of Wakanda, dons the iconic Black Panther armour and protects his country from outside interference. Wakanda itself is a walled off country that put on the appearance of being a poverty stricken third world country when in reality, Wakandan technology is far superior to anything the world has seen because a meteor crash in the region thousands of years ago brings with it the metal that made Wakanda its fortune: Vibranium, the same material Captain America's shield and Black Panther's suits are made of.
In the current political climate of the world (and yes, politics are everywhere), what interests me the most is waiting to see how the story deals with the fact that Wakanda is actually a hyper nationalist state that profited while the rest of Africa suffered right at their doorstep. While I'm hoping for a good action flick, what I'm truly hoping for is a social commentary on the current state of politics, race relations and the road ahead, if the movie manages to pull this off without being preachy, that alone will be an achievement in Comic Book Movie history.
Black Panther, directed by Ryan Coogler, releases today across the world. only myself, mind you, I don't want to kill my friends with my cooking - for which I keep a functional kitchen that is stocked with the bare essentials and some extra stuff that comes in handy whenever I want to cook whatever I want.

It was Mrs. Besant, who was highly visible in India as a political and social reformer, who hailed the boy as the chosen vehicle of what she called the Great Teacher or World Teacher.
The reference was to a messianic Buddha figure in Hindu mythology. To further the cause, Mrs. Besant in 1911 founded the World Order of the Star of the East, with Mr. Krishnamurti at its head.
He was privately educated in England and at the Sorbonne in Paris, and Mrs. Besant traveled with him in Europe and in the United States. His early visits to New York in the 1920's became choice items for the city's many tabloids, which feasted on the fervor of Mrs. Besant's followers and their notion of the new Messiah.
By the mid-1920's, Mrs. Besant issued public disclaimers noting that she and the Order of the Star had never made such claims.
Technology, Entertainment and Design (TED) is in the talk for a long time now.

Good Luck.

Okay so I absolutely love cooking food for myself - only myself, mind you, I don't want to kill my friends with my cooking - for which I keep a functional kitchen that is stocked with the bare essentials and some extra stuff that comes in handy whenever I want to cook whatever I want.

Yes this is a real place)

Always

4. Have a strong kitchen cleaner:

And by Kitchen cleaner, I don't mean a maid, I mean liquid that you spray on stuff to scrub it clean. Not just that, having a great soap for washing utensils as well as cleaning the kitchen is extremely important in keeping yourself healthy, otherwise you're just risking diseases. Which is one more reason why you need to keep a clean and functional kitchen, by the way, cuz otherwise you will fall sick.

5. No shame in asking for help:

Your moms have been maintaining a kitchen for ages now, some of our moms have maintained a delicious kitchen while still working and being a star in their career. Now, since I hope our generation will share the workload of the kitchen, first step is to go hug your mom and thank her for everything, the second step is asking her help in setting up the kitchen.

I used to have an incredibly messy kitchen when I shifted to another city until my mom came visiting and cleaned the whole thing. I've been ashamed of myself since then and have maintained it.

On this day in 1986, 90-year old Jiddu Krishnamurthi, born in Madras in May, 1895, passed away due to cancer.

His legacy, however, endures on as strong as ever.

In a time when people were obsessed with finding Gods and spirituality in their lives, Jiddu Krishnamurthi, a young man at the time unsure of his place in the world, was being groomed to be a World Teacher, a notion he rejected before renouncing his religion, caste and creed and travel the world, giving speeches and being an all around awesome person. He renounced all organized religions and ideologies in 1929, saying that religions, with their prescribed teachings and worship services, retarded self-awareness. In that spirit, he carried his message to audiences in many countries.

When Jiddu Krishnamurti was a teen-ager, he became the protege of Annie Besant, president of the Theosophist Society.

"}]
I've always found it slightly sad that we are discouraged from ever reading about the social injustices of the world, of the social injustices that we commit on our fellow human beings. From the caste system in India to the segregation in America, social injustices should be compulsory studying for children growing up so that they may not continue maintaining and benefitting from the same system of discrimination that their forefathers benefited from with the side effect of being completely unaware that they are indeed benefitting by the systems in place.

For indeed, the average privileged person today does not understand why they are privileged and that is simply a failure of our education system, one that we must aim to fix if India ever hopes to move to the future by giving its citizens equal opportunity and more importantly, for a movie like Black Panther to exist in an Indian setting.

For you see, black folk in America went through and still go through shocking amounts of racism, although not as open and outright as it used to be a mere 50 years ago, the racism today against black people in America is more subtle, entrenched into the very systems that hold the country together, in their pop culture and stories they tell each other.

This marks the very first time in the history of film that a movie is based on Afro-futurism.

I'll be honest, I'm not expecting this movie to be anything more than an Origin story, but that is because I'm a privileged person in India, because I've never gone through the systematic oppression black folk in America have gone through. For black people, this is going to be the very first time an African country will be shown as a futuristic society, the first time a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie shows young black children that their skin colour does not matter when it comes to being a hero.

India has similar issues with our caste system but I do not want to get into that right now, or on this platform at least. One, I won't be able to stop writing about it because it makes me incredibly angry at how unjust we have been to the underprivileged castes and two, because it is a sensitive issue and people do not want to be reminded of their fragility. But that day of reckoning will come.

As for what it means for the MCU itself, this is going to be the final movie before The Avengers: Infinity War Part One drops in the final week of April (special release date in India).

Do check out Coogler's other films, Creed and Fruitvale Station, he's a fantastic and very young director that has a bright career ahead of him.
"}]
We all love how fast our Amazon and Flipkart deliveries are, what with deliveries being super fast these days because competition is literally cut throat (well no, not literally, but it certainly seems to be getting there), the other day I ordered two different products from both Flipkart and Amazon at around 10PM in the night and both the products arrived before 11AM the next day, in a span of less than 12 hours. That is mind boggling to me, considering one of the products was coming from Mumbai and came in via air mail.

Speaking of Airmail, here's a fun fact: On February 18th 1911 (lovely year), French Pilot Henri Pequet flew his Humber-Sommer biplane from Allahabad Airport to Naini, a distance of 10 kilometres, carrying 6,000 cards and letters. The package was stamped 'First Aerial Post, U.P. Exhibition 1911'

Now, keep in mind that it was only 8 years ago, in 1903, that the Wright Brothers invented the Aeroplane for the very first time. Within a decade, the technology had spread far enough to establish an airport in Allahbad, UP. It is worth noting that the first commercial flight only happened a few short years later, in 1914, between Russia and America no less.

And then the First World War began and technology advanced rapidly. But that is a story for another time.

But isn't it amazing to think about the inventions of the 20th century and how rapidly humans advanced our civilisation? The airmail was a stroke of genius and most definitely lead to people believing that they indeed could depend on this new fangled technology to deliver important packages and thus paving the way to even greater innovations in the future, not to mention innovations during the war which are a whole different topic that I shall talk about another time.

The world is an amazing place. To think this great thing happened in India is also something of a zinger.
"}]
Dhundiraj Govind Phakle, famous as Dadasaheb Phalke, passed away on 16th February in 1944 at Nashik. He was an Indian producer-director-screenwriter and cinematographer. His debut film “Raja Harischandra” in 1913 is regarded as the first full length motion picture film of India. Dadasaheb Phalake has been described as 'Chitrapat Maharshi'- the great sage of cinema and also is considered as the “Father of the Indian Cinema”. He made 95 movies and 26 short films in his career spanning 19 years, till 1937, including his most noted works: Mohini Bhasmasur (1913), Satyavan Savitri (1914), Lanka Dahan (1917), Shri Krishna Janma (1918) and Kaliya Mardan (1919).

Amongst the many things that Dadasaheb Phalke was, he was a son of a Sanskrit scholar, a student of Art. He also studied architecture and was a landscape painter. He later also worked as a portrait photographer and assisted a German illusionist.

Dadasaheb Phalke would eventually give away his entire life savings and life insurance money to a friend to purchase filmmaking equipment from Europe, with which he went on to make his films while facing resistance by many, including people who simply refused to work in his films because being in them was considered a social taboo. Of course, if you've watched Gangs of Wasseypur, it wasn't long before the famous dialogue about cinema in that particular film became true across India.

But, Phalke did not live to see that day. A pioneer of silent films, in 1937, he realised that nobody wanted to watch his films anymore because silent films were rapidly falling out of fashion with the advent of dialogue driven movies that further bloomed the art of cinema by combining theatre and filmmaking. Realising his time was done, Dadasaheb Phalke retired, before going on to pass away on this day in 1944, penniless and still in an India that was a vassal for the British.

It was only a few decades later than the Government of India, independent and shaking off the yoke of British oppression, has a award named after him for filmmaking. He is considered a pioneer and one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, giving birth to an industry that today makes the highest number of movies in the world.

A small solace for a man who died penniless and unappreciated in his time. In the spirt of filmmaking and art, let us remember Dadasaheb Phalke for kickstarting the juggernaut that would be the Indian Film Industry.
"}]
The eight-person collective based in London has received plaudits from Frank Ocean, Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme, Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig and others curious about the retro-futuristic aesthetic of "Something for Your M.I.N.D." Their lead vocalist, Orono, is a 17-year-old from Japan who used to write Katy Perry fan fiction and learned to play guitar watching Koenig's "A-Punk" instructional video on YouTube. Lyrically, she fills Superorganism's forthcoming debut – arriving via Domino in early 2018 – with a running commentary rivaling Courtney Barnett's clever observations on the everyday. "I'm out of touch and I don't know what's going on, except my little circle of internet friends," she says in a Skype interview. "I don't really overthink it when I'm doing creative stuff. I do what I feel like doing. Try and make something 'good.' Not really considering how other people perceive it because that messes up the final product."

Backing her in stunning Technicolor fashion are Harry, Tucan and Emily, who handle the bulk of writing and production, visual producer Robert, and vocalists Ruby, B and Seoul. Together, they have created a genre-spanning Spotify playlist called "Sweet Stuff" that has snowballed to over 300 songs to get everyone on the same page artistically. "We listen to it together quite a lot," says Harry. "You end up with Lil Yachty next to a Slint song or whatever. We all like well-crafted pop songs, regardless of the genre. It's a really great way to pool our ideas and our tastes."

They Say: "For us, pop music is a thing unto itself," Harry says. "It's something that makes genre irrelevant. Something concise, to the point, it's catchy, it's in your head and it's creatively arranged and produced. That's ultimately what our goal is with this. We're not thinking we have to produce in this specific genre. We could take it in any direction we wanted to."

"My dad considered himself a punk in the Seventies, so he listened to punk music and he wasn't into disco. You could only listen to what you'd buy and what was on the radio. I don't have to make the decision either way because it's all available to me instantly. That's got plusses and minuses. The plus is that you can draw influence from anything. But then at the same time it means that generations don't have these fully unifying things anymore, like the dominance of Michael Jackson or Kurt Cobain. For our generation, it's making sense of this information overload rather than any particular message or movement."
