In the mountain of mediocrity that is Indian Mainstream Cinema, Rahman brings to it music that alleviates it to legendary status. If there's ever been anything like musical perfection, Red Hot Chilli Pepper's Stadium Arcadium, Metallica's '...And Justice For All', Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' and this movie's music album come the closest. The shining star of Roja's album? The titular song you can listen below. I realise that writing about the best Rahman songs is an impossible task, simply because of his sheer body of work, all of whom comprise of some of the best music ever created, so much so that his name has resonated in the halls of power of music across the world, also netting him an Oscar for his contributions to film music.

There are entire volumes that I could write about this fantastic and soft spoken man that has composed songs which can only be described as quintessentially Indian, not to mention a part of our psyche because of how much our society revolves around movies and film music. In the mountain of mediocrity that is Indian Mainstream Cinema, Rahman brings to it music that alleviates it to legendary status. It also helps that the movies Rahman has scored for also happen to be some of the most iconic movies ever made.

So, on his birthday, here's my list of the best 5 songs Rahman has composed, according to me.

1. Roja

What is even there to say about this song? If there's ever been anything like musical perfection, Red Hot Chilli Pepper's Stadium Arcadium, Metallica's '...And Justice For All', Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' and this movie's music album come the closest. The shining star of Roja's album? The titular song you can listen below. Of course, it has both Tamil and Hindi versions and while I strongly encourage listening to the Tamil version, I've linked the Hindi version below, because you know, wider audience and all.

Side note: Watch this movie, it's incredible.

2. Kehna Hi Kya From Bombay:

Mani Ratnam's Bombay is easily one of the best Indian movies ever made, with a fantastic plot and progression. Unlike regular Indian cinema, however, the music score in this movie is not a immersion and pacing breaking affair, but a character within itself, and who better to score for a movie like this than the Maestro himself?

Oh and this isn't even the best song in the album, this movie also features all time greats like Humma Humma. I'm particularly partial to Tu Hi Re, but this one is more iconic and frankly has a soft spot in my heart.

3. Munbe Vaa from Sillunu Oru Kadhal:

I frankly can't tell you much about this song, mostly because I don't speak Tamil, but that hasn't stopped me from being mesmerised by the fantastic music direction that powers the frankly melodious voices carrying the song. I don't care that this song is in Tamil, music has no language, especially when it is this beautiful.

Oh and I think Bhoomika Chawla is a fantastic actress.

4. Nahin Samne from Taal:

When I first watched this movie, I was very young and my parents had taken me to the theatre. I don't remember much of the movie, but I remember this song quite clearly. Funny how that memory works.

Nahin Samne is the quintessential heartbreak/sad song that can even go on to inspire you if you're listening to it at a beach and learning just to move on. It's such a fantastic song, 10/10 guaranteed goosebumps.

5. Saddaq Haq:

Rockstar has a plethora of fantastic songs but I chose Saddaq Haq for this list simply because it went on to become a rallying cry for young people fighting the power and also because Rahman enlisted the help of Orianthi Panagaris, a female guitarist from Australia who is, well, she's absolutely mind blowingly fantastic.

Orianthi, as she's known on stage, has been a student of some of the greatest guitarists in the world and it shows, she's an absolute beast of a guitarist and finishes Saddaq Haq with a power riff that I'm certain pushed whoever listened to that song to get off their backsides and fight the power themselves.

So yeah, this one is for you Orianthi, girl power!

Dear Dad,

In my early teens, I really thought that I was 90% mom and 10% you. That’s really because I just didn't know you, dad, and really I didn't know myself as well. It’s funny to me sitting in my room and writing it out to you. Its funny to me because I didn't recognize how much similar I was to you. I just want you to know how much you mean to me. I want you to know it now, not when you are 90 or 100 about how much you need me and how thankful I am to you and how much I learnt from the way you and mom navigated your own lives. In a time when you are starting to actually recognize the differences between us and start appreciating the things that I am able to accomplish with my own DNA, I thought it was a good time to say it. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I want you to be happy not only today or tomorrow but for the rest of your life. You will always be my number one man.

Dear Dad, I Love you.
"}]
As George Washington said "Friendship is a plant of slow growth and must undergo and withstand the shocks of
adversity before it is entitled to the appellation".Friends are the bacon bits in the salad bowl of life.
Friendship is of two types,One is people will stab you on your face and the second one is people will stab
you on your back.

People who stab you on your face they become real friends because they talk about good things
on your back and bad things on your face and they say what are the changes you need to make, how to be in your
life.This friendship never fade.

Everybody isn't your friend.Just because they hang around you and laugh with you doesn't mean
they are your friend.People pretend well.At the end of the day, real situations expose fake people,so pay
attention. This is what we call that friendship as fake friendship and we call those people as fake friends.A real
situation will always expose a fake friend. These people will stab you at your back and ask why you're bleeding.
Fake friends are like shadows. They follow you in the sun but leave you in the dark, once they stop talking to
you they start talking about you.One fake friend can do more harm than ten enemies, rather have an honest enemy
than a fake friend.

The sad truth is that there are some people who will only be there for u as long as you have
something they need. When you no longer serve a purpose to them, they will leave. The good news is,if you tough
it out, you'll eventually weed these people out of your life and be left with some great people you can count
on.We rarely lose friends, we just gradually figure out who the real ones are.As we grow up we realize, it
becomes less important to have a ton of friends and more important to have who the real ones are.Being too nice is
almost a crime nowadays because fake friends are everywhere.

I conclude this by saying that,Never experience with a fake friend that gives you only
empathy so,don't let your happiness depend on something that you have lost and stop swimming across oceans for
people who wont jump a puddle for you.Be independent and be with your soul that never fades you until your death even that may fade after your death only.

"}]
I want to share a secret with you.

Something intimate.

Promise me, you’ll never reveal this to anyone except you and me. Especially not to the brothers.

I HATE CRICKET!

If I had been offered a choice between a one-way ticket to hell and a ticket for a test match between India and England, I would’ve been reciting my poetry to the Satan instead.

I HATE CRICKET!

And I cannot tell you how good it feels to say it out loud.

2003, my sister would stay at home and draw picture of Aladdin and King Kong,
I always had to go out and play cricket and it felt wrong.

At Cricket I was complete disappointment…….

To the entire Indian subcontinent!

I was always picked last..

And then.,
I was always asked to be the wicket keeper, Even though there were no runs behind the wicket.
I was not playing cricket, I was playing Fetch.

I can drone on about this but I need to make one thing clear,

No one ever forced me to, especially not my parents not my friends.

I have no one to blame for all those wasted afternoons.

But, there was this manufactured masculinity concept, which was spreading in the environment like air pollution.

And I was passively inhaling the poison.

What do young boys do if they don’t play Cricket, or Football?

How else they establish that they are men?

Young boys do not watch Tarla Dalal’s cooking show!
I forced my father, to pay for cricket lessons.
And at the end of a year at cricket academy, I had been demoted from wicket keeper to towel boy.
And I felt I had gone from being a disappointment to a subcontinent to a disgrace to mankind.
2017, though!
”Did you watch the match yesterday?”
“NO, I didn’t”.
“Then what were you doing?"
What does a man in his mid-20’s do if not work 24/7?
Or Watch cricket while guzzling down beer and devouring deep fried chicken?”
Well,
In the evening I read books on philosophy while having cold iced Latte and Simply three performing
The Rain in the background.
I indulge in unproductive gossips for hours on the phone.
If some of you are, annoyed or confused,
it’s probably because you didn’t grow up in the same era as me, or in my neighborhood.
But honestly, I just want to tell all the young boys out there that you don’t have to be on a sports team just because you were born a man.
Now, I want to remind you that you have made a promise to me, that you’ll never ever reveal this to anyone except you and me, especially not to the brothers because Cricket is a Religion, and I don’t want to start a riot.
"}]

Few months back, Mr. Raja Ranjith Kumar from II-CSE bagged top prize at LBRCE for paper presentation. This time, he once again proved his worth by grabbing second prize at Coding contest held at PB Siddartha College. Let us know how he has excelled in the competition.

Ten teams attended the competition and Ranjith teamed up with Mr. Sasi Kiran from II-CSE. In the first round, they were asked to answer 25 MCQs which were based on C and Java languages. They scored pretty good marks in this round and they were one among 5 teams selected for final round. In this round, they were given few questions on coding. These problems were also asked to be resolved in C and Java programming languages. At the beginning, they encountered with some moments of frustration in managing time and building the code, but with their perseverance and constant efforts, they excelled in the competition. It wasn't an easy job for them to beat other teams because they also gave a tough competition to this team.

We begin each and every year with some resolutions. Some of us stick to them whereas others postpone it to the next year. Well one of my resolution was to help someone who needs it. I heard from some of my friends that they were planning to visit an orphanage on the 1st of January. I decided to join them. We collected some of the old clothes and toys from our houses, the elders bought some new blankets, and other basic things and headed for our destination Kasturbha Gandhi national memorial trust. As soon as we reached Kasturbha Gandhi Memorial trust we found many graceful faces which were delighted to see us. We entered the orphanage and interacted with the children. There were more than 50 children. All of them showed great enthusiasm and came forward to show their talent. Some of them sang a song while others danced and even actively participated in a small quiz that we conducted for them. Later there was a cake cutting to celebrate New Year with them.

Then we gathered to see the sweet grandmas. They were equally happy to see us. I sat near one grandma and had a small conversation with her. All that was holding them back from escaping the camp, was a small piece of rope tied to one of their legs.

As the man on seeing the elephants, he was completely confused as, why the elephants didn’t just use their strength to break the rope and escape the camp. They could easily have done so, but instead they didn’t try to do at all.

The man was Curious and wanted to know the answer, he asked a trainer nearby why the elephants were just standing there and never tried to escape.

The trainer replied;

“when they are very young and much smaller we use a chain to tie them and, at that age, it tries harder to escape but the chain Hurts the leg and it gets Hurt. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free."

Only MINDSET is enough to hold them.

The only reason that the elephants weren’t breaking free and escaping from the camp was because over the time they adopted the MINDSET that it just wasn’t possible.

Moral of the story:

No matter how much the world tries to hold you back, always continue with the BELIEF that what you want to achieve is possible.

Build Up a STRONG MINDSET that "I CAN." At every Moment, that Believing in yourself can make successful, it is the most important step in actually achieving it.

TO be an ENTREPRENEUR :
"THINK BIG"
"Set Strong Positive MINDSET"

It was my first STORY writting in Stumagz.. We find lot of people complaining about, the lack of time to do what they love as their main hindrance towards success. If you are working 9 to 5 in some agency and love singing very much that you actually know that this thing that you do from 9 to 5 is not going to take you anywhere, then you have only two options. First, succumb to self pity about your situation and get used for bearing the regret and do nothing about it. Second, go work for 9 to 5, come home, kiss the dog, play and then, work on what you love from 7 pm to 2 am. That 7 to 2 in the morning is everything. It is the only way, it is the only time for you to outwork others and become a poster child in singing or whatever that matters to you. We have to deploy a lot of patience for this. It all breaks down into a binary situation for which you have to decide, either you do or you dont.

By the way, I just figured out, my clock stuck 2.00 am! I'm done!

"}]
