"Failure is the first step towards success”

“Failure is the best teacher”

“Failure is not falling down, but refusing to get up”

Typical definitions of failure, aren’t they? But let me tell you, none of the quotes mentioned above define ‘failure’. They define the people who were determined to achieve success.

Then, what actually is failure?

Failure is nothing but an inability to work up-to the required limit. If you’re one among those who failed, then it’s not because you are on your journey of success. It is simply because you did not put in much effort. Failure can be remarked as your ‘Journey to success’ after you’ve achieved your goal, but right now, it simply means ‘YOU DID NOT WORK HARD ENOUGH’. You’d probably be asked the reason for your failure, right? Who would you say is responsible? Your teachers? Your education system? Or would you say circumstances were such that you couldn’t study?

I would say NONE. It’s you. Yes, only you are to be held responsible. No one else is. It was your own headache. Why would anyone else jump into your pool for no reason? Now don’t plan for suicide saying ‘I quit’ or anything else just because I told you were responsible. Ending your life might end your part of problem, what about your parents? Why give them the punishment when you are at fault? Live life and bear it yourself. You can’t die in peace when you know your death is torturing someone else. It was your parent’s job to get you admitted in a college, their part of work is done. It was your teacher’s job to teach you, they did. Now don’t you dare say that your teachers weren’t good enough to teach you everything. You were supposed to be attending all of their classes in order to learn the lessons. Did you do that? If you did that, you would have at least got passing marks!!! If not, then stop blaming them.

The whole and sole reason you failed, is because you did not give as much time as it was demanded. So, sitting in a corner and crying is absolutely of no use. It is not going to help you even slightest of a bit. If you’re so concerned about it, then skip the crying part and start working for it. Stop blaming someone else for your loss. If you can’t give credits to someone for your success, then don’t even dare to blame someone for your failure. You always have a chance to mend your mistakes. Opportunities won’t come your way if you keep stumbling over the same mistakes again and again. Accept you are liable for your failure but don’t let yourself drown in dismay. Your failure was meant for you realize something. It was for you to understand that the amount of work done was insufficient, and you need to work even harder to be successful. Just making up plans and sticking to it for a couple of days won’t help. Consistency is important.

‘But there are circumstances when I can’t study’

Ever heard about Stephen Hawking? He can’t even move himself an inch and yet he is one of the most successful people on earth. What could be worse than being paralyzed for life? Any other excuses?

Come on, it’s your life. No one is going to live it for you. You work hard, you reap the fruits. If you don’t, then it’s your fault. Failure would never be your ‘path to success’ but it’ll be a little part of your success if you learn the lessons taught by your failure. Now, it’s your decision to either jump off and fall or jump off and fly.

"}]
She eventually started drifting from loneliness which silently made her mourn in grief to live without a person who gave her life. She now knew she was never alone because her dad promised her to be the light in dark and the shadow in light.

She was standing still yet the ground was wobbly, now she was more stronger than before,

Yes she did lost her self, but that was just a piece of her soul which she couldn’t replace.

It took me a lot of time to gather my thoughts for this movie.

Beneath all the supposed 'vulgarity' our society accuses Arjun Reddy of having, beneath the 'bad words' that supposedly made it popular with Telugu speaking youth, beneath the straight to the point nature of the film, Arjun Reddy is a movie that is peerlessly honest. In all my years of watching Telugu cinema, which I admit took a backseat for a long time because the industry had begun to bore me with the same cliched storyline over and over again, I have never come across a movie so brutally honest, so down to earth with characters that talk, walk and behave like real people do. Arjun Reddy is a window to the life of another person, except this window is real and what you see before you on that screen is a story that could have really taken place in real life.

At its core, Arjun Reddy is a story of the redemption of a man who has hit rock bottom and stayed there for so long, he made rock bottom his home, his palace and of course, his personal prison. It is the story of a man trapped in his own memories and looking for the next fix to keep his mind from the misery of his existence. It's the story of suffering, unapologetically honest and brutal suffering that all of us who have gone through a breakup can identify with, and although we may never hit rock bottom as hard as the titular character Arjun Reddy did, we can certainly identify the elements that took him there.

Devarakonda Vijay Sai's performance as Arjun Reddy is easily the best in recent times, I could go on to say he is the best Telugu actor in the industry as of this moment. The pain and suffering he portrays on screen, central to Arjun's character, could not have been pulled off by anyone else except this actor who is barely 3 films old, with Arjun Reddy being his fourth venture. Indeed, any high praise that comes the way of Vijay from this movie would be an understatement considering his performance and the sheer iron will to stay committed and in character for the entire movie. In the words of a friend, Devarakonda Vijay seems to make suffering a poetry. Growing up in a privileged home, Arjun's isolation with the social injustices of society are made apparent as the movie progresses. His free spirited nature and his utter disregard for societal conventions is a microcosm of the movie itself, a point which I will return to momentarily.

Shalini Pandey, the female lead who plays Preethi, is not one the industry would consider 'glamorous' and that is precisely what makes this movie so realistic and grounded. Unlike most Telugu films (or even Hindi films for that matter) where the 'heroines' look over glamorous, over sexualised and over reacting to everything around them, Shalini's portrayal of Preethi is, in the simplest form, real. Preethi looks like just another person you would see on their way to college, a normal woman who falls in love, makes love, studies and lives and breathes.

It is difficult to believe that this is director Sandeep Reddy Vanga's first movie. Scenes are abruptly cut, there are close up shots that evoke the sense of intimacy and tenderness, there are even sequences shot without a single cut that left us absolutely enthralled, especially a scene in the second act of the movie which involves Arjun going to a hostel on his motorcycle. The entire hostel sequence was shot without a single scene cut, it is one continuously long shot that is gratuitously satisfying to watch. If Sandeep Reddy can do this with his first film, I cannot wait to see how he matures as a director going forward.

Much like the rest of the movie, even the characters of the movie are as real as the leads themselves. Arjun's best friend Shiva and the rest of his gang are your friends, they talk and behave like yours would do in real life and that is precisely why this movie is so great. I know I've been repeating that for about all of this write-up, but that's just how amazed I am with the movie, and why it is so effective.

This is a movie that breaks every cliche of the Telugu film industry, it laughs in the face of the cliches and has nothing but utter contempt at the prudes in our society. Arjun and Preethi celebrate their love like any other real couple does, there is no being coy, there is no beating around the bush. Arjun respects Preethi for who she is and the feeling of trust and respect is only reciprocated by Preethi when she finally opens up to him. Shalini does a wonderful job here, turning from a meek young girl to a woman who isn't afraid of being who she is around Arjun. She isn't just some damsel in distress, she has a life, a story of her own and a world of her own, which is more than I can say for other Telugu movies in which actresses exist only for a couple of songs and some eye candy.

Even the final act of the movie, which has divided those who have watched the movie with a difference in opinion, was done in the same style as the rest of the movie. While the ending might seem too good to be true when you consider the larger scheme of things, the way it is handled is absolutely perfect.

Baahubali 2 pushed the boundaries of what is possible in a Telugu movie but is Arjun Reddy that defines the future of the industry. Arjun Reddy has shown us that a debutant director with a fairly new lead actor and a completely new actress can break every known cliche and convention of the Telugu Film Industry and make a movie so raw, so unapologetically real and grounded, it becomes a benchmark.

And benchmark it is, for after this every movie will be compared to Arjun Reddy. A new dawn rises for Telugu cinema where it has now been proven, without the shadow of a doubt, that truly great movies containing real people in them can be made, putting the products of nepotism that currently infest the industry and their fans to shame for once and for all. I simply cannot recommend this movie enough.

It is a NO in bold letters. Most of us went through this. We don't go forward in many sitiations only to hide ourselves and letting our fear win over us always. Fuck it dude. You are much better . Yeah , you will fail a million times , but one day will come where people will look upon you with expectations. If you want that day to happen in your life , you gotta be fearless.

Speak up. Stand up for what u think is right.Don't care if u got support behind your back or not , because people behind your back will always remain there .You have to be in the front. Become a leader.Become a role model.Have fan following. Life seems so beautiful then.Let people talk about you.Let it be negative or positive, but you are their topic. That's what matters.

What kind of constructive feedback can you expect from such audience? So they remove the word constructive and get back to mere Feedback.

What constructive feedback means is the CRC approach; Commendation, Recommendation, Commendation approach. People call it sandwich approach in which you start off with commendation (Eg. "You're good"), then you add some feedback, then you mention the areas of improvement. Then you again end up the statement with commendation so the other person feels good about it.

But here, the people have a different attitude of theirs, that please don't get me wrong but you're a *beep*. Now with this attitude, what constructive feedback will anyone give. And the people who wanted to make it Tinder, they have successfully done it. "I like you since my 7th grade. I know that you're committed now, will be marrying soon, but at least for once we can go on a date." And the people who're cheap will remain the same way. "What's your size?" Like, what're you gonna do it with it anyway? You wanna wear it? "What's your size"!

So in the past 3-4 days, everyone joined Sarahah app. Even I thought of getting validated on social media so I joined it. Now there are two types of people who give you feedback, the ones who compliment you and the ones who criticize you. As a matter of fact, we are not as affected as much by the former than the latter. In my case, people are just bursting out their frustration. This might be the case with a few of you but for me, that was the sole thing I received.

Last night I got a message saying, "O stammer! I used to do better comedy than you when I was 5 years old. Do better, grow up you!" And then I was thinking that it was easier to do comedy at the age of 5 because then, people didn't judge you the way you're doing right now. Also, at that time you didn't need to put any efforts because people used to get happy just by seeing you. Issue is, it's tougher to perform in front of the audience at 25. Secondly, I've been stammering since my childhood, you haven't told me anything new. Tell me something new. You might have not known this but I've grown up knowing this.

Social media is full of this sort of people. For a fat guy, they'll be saying "How fat are you? You eat so much, you'll die of it." For a skinny guy, "Hey lanky fellow! What are you doing? Eat something or you'll fly off in the wind." For someone who's balding, "Sir you're getting bald. Get it sorted or people will tease you." If someone's black, "Brother you're too black. I mean, too black, very dark." Now what constructive feedback shall one take from such critics and their messages.

So in the night, I decided that now it's going over the board. I mean, there were positive messages too but the negative ones were getting more focus. So finally, I deleted my account and removed all the handles on which I posted it and went to bed. Even in the morning I was thinking the same.

Then I went to the adjacent room of my parents' where I found our briefcase. That briefcase had all the photo albums since my childhood; the Kodak ones in which we used to paste the postcard size pictures. So I took a look at it. My mother sat next to me and began share the tales of how, when I was young, started drinking from the milk bottle; how I rode the tricycle when I was 3-years old, then the bicycle; how I excelled in my school; how I cried while going to the school; how I later learned to ride a bike, then a car; how i helped in all the family functions.

It all went beyond that 'constructive feedback'. Even my father was validating all these incidents. Then I thought that for the sole reason of getting this "constructive feedback", we're digging into all these apps, when you can find everything you want in the room next to yours.

Technology has changed it all, complicated even the simplest things. If you need the feedback, just walk in to that room. Want to get the validation, the service is available for you. But we rely on a third-party app to get a comment on ourselves from the anonymous person which makes us happy or sad (more often).
What is going on man!?"

txt
rich_1503739700192
My brothers are in the Army and it terrifies me every time they are on active duty. You would always bring the Ganesh idol by carrying it on your head and place it down saying “ Ganapthi Bappa Moriyaaa!!!” .
I smiled and realized that I don’t remember doing that, but it isn’t surprising. I never was really good at hiding my excitement then, and miserably fail at that even now.
This Festival has given me so many beautiful memories that I strongly feel like I owe Vinayaka for all the happiness he has presented me on this day and everyday. I am truly blessed.

Now, when I write about this festival, I realize why this day has been more than dear to me.

The day started early on this festival. We would be awake by 7 and ready by 9. While mom would get busy in the kitchen making the variety of dishes to be presented to the Lord, I would just run around trying to help and only succeed in distracting her from her work.
But, the part I really awaited for was when Dad and I would go out to get the Ganesh Idol and all the “samagri” consisting of ‘patri’, ‘pushpam’ and fruits. This part of the day, when Dad and I sit down to tie threads to the fruits to hang them around the idol, was what I waited for, for an year until the festival arrived again. Then, we would make a garland for the idol and mark our books with haldi and kumkum.
These small moments made me feel cherished and created a deeper bond with my dad in those small conversations that we shared.
Soon, my cousins and grandparents would be home, and dad would get dressed in his white ‘panchi’ ( dhoti) and ‘khandoba’. He had just transformed into the pandith for the day.
And then, the pooja would begin and so would our hunger when the Prasad/Naivedyam is offered to the Ganesha.
The story of the festival and the Lord Ganesha was what introduced me to storytelling and their significance ever since I’ve known or remembered this Festival.
The pooja would end in an hour, and then our “food festival” would begin. Our family of nine would gather around the table as the kids sit on the floor, and get up numerous times for second and third servings.
Lord Ganesha had come, and brought joy with him, and just 9 days later, he would depart us , but leaving memories, strength and bonds.
Today, the festival, the fun, memories and most of everything was there, only the number nine was six, as my cousins were in hostels and my grandma, looking over us form above.
But, today was a good day. Independence Day is a national festival and has equal importance for every Indian regardless of religion, class, creed or race. The way of celebrating is also the same throughout the country and that is the day, when you find whole India celebrating and rejoicing.

There was a time when Indians were not aware of the problems going on in the country and the society. But today the younger generation of India has come forward and many raise their voice against the problems in the society.

The most important thing is that we remember and pay respect to those who sacrificed their lives for the country.

Children look forward for this event because they expect sweets at the end of the celebrations. We being adults, we need to realise the importance of national festivals and make it a point to participate and feel proud as a citizen.

On this national holiday , there is a scene of joy, pride and rejoice everywhere. Many programs will be conducted which will bring out our patriotic spirit hidden deep within us.For students, this is a great platform to showcase their talents in these events which is an opportunity to convey a strong message to the audience and empathize with them reminicing the fights we fought and the victories we had and the heroes we lost.

Allow me to hit it straight. Intrinsically, 'Sarahah' means 'honesty' in Arabic. This brain wave was brought into force by a Saudi national and developer--Zain al-Abidin Tawfiq. It enables us to send and receive creative yet anonymous messages only to the ones registered with the app. The icing on the cake is that,it doesn't bring the identity of the sender to light (conditions applied, like any other policy). Tawfiq was a part of the global IT circle of Wipro. There was a glitch when it came for the employees to not mince one's words while directing their prospects to their bosses. This mattered a lot to him. Back in November 2016, it was merely a social networking website without any app. Sarahah managed to grab everyone's eye balls since then. Initially, it was a platform of constructive feedback only for the employees in the IT firm. Later, it went onto becoming it's existing stage.

All we need to do is sign up, share our ID and wait till the messages start to pop in. With versions at hand both for android and ios,it is one of the most trending apps. One major facet is that there's no linear way to reply to the received messages.
Reportedly ,Sarahah is digging this option and working on many other attributes. We can also look around

for the ones that are registered. However,we cannot bar a user bluntly. This network of genuineness
is still in it's newborn phase. As per aforementioned, it only casts to escort a panorama of unadulterated feedback. So, go ahead and get candid with the people you already know!
"}]
I recently bumped into this YouTube video about Sarahah app and it's actually quite intriguing. Sarahah, it's already been talked about a lot but the buzz doesn't seem to end. I thought of sharing it because not every person has a sensible manner of thinking about such apps.

If you've done something or have an opinion, you are very much aware of the circumstance in which you acted that way. But not everyone will understand that. Regardless of how firm you are to act maturely upon these feedbacks, they do hurt you in some way or the other. So you need not rely upon their perspective, their validation, to take any action. If you're wise enough and really want to improve yourself, talk to someone on whom you trust and who, you believe, will think for your best without judging you. Getting remarks from someone anonymous doesn't make any sense and in my opinion, the ones who care about you and do not have the guts to tell to you in person, those are the ones with "Meethi chhuri"!

Follow the video below for a better insight. It is majorly in Hindi. So I have provided the English transcript of the same. Watch it and then decide, is it really worthy of your attention or not.

"So recently, there has come an app called 'Sarahah' on social media in which people give constructive feedback. It's a very fun app, constructive feedback and all. But the catch is, there are two points:-

1. On social media, you have a lot of friends and many are the backstabbing ones. Backstabbing as in, they pretend to be very nice in front of you. But behind your back, they always have their eyes to double-cross you in any way possible.

2. Constructive feedback, wherein if we leave aside the majority of the intellectual peeps, the rest interpret the the word 'Constructive' as 'Construction'.

"}]
My brothers are in the Army and it terrifies me every time they are on active duty. The emotional toll it plays on your mind when you're not sure about whether they're going to return alive or not from hostile zones can break even the strongest of people, but I understand the choice they've made. The thing about coming from a privileged family is that we get to make a choice when it comes to career choices. Those among us who are underprivileged see the Army as a viable means of earning a living as well as serving the country, but us privileged folk, as most of my peers in BITS will no doubt identify, have a choice between the Army and the rest, simply because our privilege allows us to have more opportunity for being born with the skin colour and caste society deems is worthy of that respect.

But the squabbles of caste, skin colour, even enmity and privilege are all insignificant in the face of death, for death comes for all, and death comes for you. It is funny really, people are ready to die and kill for their ideology but they don't realise the fundamental similarity between all humans, we all bleed, we all love, we all cry. An empathetic human being turns into a stony faced monster in the face of ideology, ideology that will make monsters of all of us. There can be no peace until one ideology is proven right, say the power mongers, and for that, we will sit in our comfortable rooms while young men and women live and die for the country and ideology.

Nonetheless, giving your life up to save those you love is the ultimate sacrifice, the ultimate act of selflessness where you are willing to exchange your own future to ensure the future of those vulnerable. And as much as we glorify the Army in India, we forget that they are just made of people, people like you and me, scared, in a cold and dark place, holding a gun in their hand and following orders. No matter what happens, when they pay the price, the ships will come to carry them home. They will be remembered, by friends, family, the people they saved, and of course politicians using the dead bodies of the Jawans for political mileage instead of fixing real issues of the country.

“We act how we think and feel. When we remove the negative thought, with it goes the drama and pain.”

– Anon.

Negative thoughts serve absolutely no purpose. Zero. None. Not-a-one. Know what else?

Negative thinking has absolutely nothing to do with you as a person. Toxic thoughts don’t define your character, and they can’t determine your destiny. We determine the power of each negative thought. Unfortunately, we often grant negative thoughts too much influence – and this is what causes damage.

The Buddha once said: “Your worst enemy cannot harm you as much as your own unguarded thoughts.”

HERE ARE 5 WAYS TO REFRAME NEGATIVE THOUGHTS:

1. OBSERVE THE THOUGHT

Take a seat in the far back of your mind and simply observe the negative thought. (Think about how you’d watch a bird flutter about on a rooftop.)

Negative thoughts are generally a product of cognitive distortions, or irrational thought patterns, something recognized by psychologists and psychiatrists the world over. You don’t require psychotherapy or medication – you only need to observe a thought, and then watch it dissipate.

2. QUESTION ANY RUMINATIONS

Ruminations are patterns of overthinking, e.g., “I have this problem, which I can solve if I just keep thinking about it.” Unless you’re actively engaging the frontal lobe of your brain – that is, attempting to solve a problem – most ruminations are pointless. The question then becomes “How do I reframe these thoughts?” Here is a suggested course of action: (a) Create two columns on a sheet of paper. Label the first column “Thought” and the second column “Solution.” (b) When the rumination appears, write down the time. Write anything of use in the “solution” column. (c) At the end of the day/week/month, count the number of times the thought appeared and any insights. Is there anything of value? If not, re-read #1.

3. DETERMINE THE EVIDENCE

Another way of reframing your thoughts is to evaluate the evidence behind them.

For example, if you’re always thinking “I never have enough money,” it may be helpful to assess the evidence and come to a solution (if needed).

Once again, you’ll create two columns. In Column (A) write any supporting proof that you “never have enough money,” e.g. bank account balance, always asking for money, etc. In Column (B) write any objective evidence demonstrating the contrary, e.g. having shelter, food, clothing, and so on.

What information is conveyed through this exercise? Can you say with 100 percent honesty that you “never have enough money”? If so, what’s the next course of action? Do you create a budget and limit your spending?

txt
rich_1503648467203

4. PRACTICE MINDFULNESS

What better place to mention mindfulness than after talking about money – a near-universal stressor? Christopher Bergland, a three-time champion of the Triple Ironman triathlon and scientist, explains mindfulness as “much more basic than most people realize.” Bergland breaks down his approach to mindfulness in three steps: “Stop. Breathe. Think about your thinking. Anyone can use this simple mindfulness technique throughout the day to stay calm, focused, optimistic and kind.” Structured mindfulness meditation practices and techniques, such as Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) exist for those people seeking more formal training.

5. UNDERSTAND IMPERMANENCE AND NEUTRALITY

We touched on this during the introduction, but it’s worth repeating: negative thoughts are fleeting and temporary; without any real power of their own. No matter what negative thoughts cross your mind, it is crucial to understand these concepts. In fact, you can even create and recite a maxim, for example, “This is a negative thought. I’ll observe but not engage, as it will quickly flee.” One terrific way to demonstrate the powerlessness of a negative thought is to distract yourself. Do something that will occupy your mind, so there’s no room for the negative thoughts.

Vinayaka Chaturthi – 25.08.2017

In a conversation with my mom yesterday, I told her how Ganesh Chaturthi has always been my favourite festival.
She smiles and says – Do you remember?

In half an hour we would be back and then get to the more fun part . We would bring down the “pooja samaan” in the top cupboard , from where they were placed last year.
Dad and I would sit down and then arrange a wonderful platform for the lord and decorate it in the most beautiful way with everything purchased in the morning.
And I had a wonderful time. Thank you Ganesha.

Ganapathi Bappa Moriyaa!!!

"}]
