Although many laws have been enacted, it is not resolved and an immediate action is required. In my opinion, \u2018Human Rights\u2019 are the very spirit of democracy. Discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity is one of the most pervasive human rights violation of our times.<p>Women and LGBT communities are the most targeted. Though the society emphasises on women empowerment, the LGBT community is neglected. It is reported that 78% of LGBT working class people face discrimination at work and 56% of them hear anti \u2013 LGBT slurs. Having a personal bias is one thing. People tend to be around other people to make them comfortable. Someone of a different sexual preference, especially when it comes to the transgendered, can create fear. What do people do when they are afraid? They\u2019ll either attack or run away. In a workplace environment, running away would mean quitting the job which will affect their income. That leaves attacking as the only other option. Attacking can take place physically as well as verbally. To counter this, awareness programs and policies regarding the same should be implemented to ensure equality for these socially backward communities.<\/p><p>Not only the UNHRC, but various other UN entities like ILO, UNDP and UNPF have taken this issue seriously, marking it as an international threat.<\/p>"}]
