After the thrilling finals of Wimbledon and the Cricket World Cup over the weekend, people were eagerly waiting for the next spectacle – India‘s Chandrayaan-2 launch. Chandrayaan-2 is India‘s second moon mission after the Chandrayaan-1 – an orbiter that was launched in 2009. With this new mission, India hopes to become the fourth country after USA, Russia, and China to soft-land a rover on the moon. After a delay earlier this month, it is all set to be launched at 2.43 pm today, i.e. July 22, 2019.

The Chandrayaan-2 mission consists of

>An orbiter that will revolve around the Moon for around a year and study the satellite's outer atmosphere.

>A lander named Vikram that will separate from the orbiter and perform a 'soft landing' near the Moon's south pole.

>A rover named Pragyaan that'll leave the lander and go around the lunar surface for around 14 Earth days, performing surface and sub-surface experiments.

The target of it is to find more evidence of water, clues about the moon’s evolution, lunar mineralogy.

Its unbelievable how one place can mean so much: our hang out spot is "THE BAKERY": going here with Friends who can share your thoughts and food with is something so magical, its a place that gives a different kind of peace where you might go in tired, but some how end up super energized.

"College is fun", say the students, but the ultimate joy starts after college is done, be it summer, winter or even rain nothing other then Exams can stop them from visiting their favorite hang out spot.

When the clock strikes 1.50 pm, Every one is out running as fast as they legs can take them to make sure they get a seat for them and their Friends. If the walls of this place could talk It would say a lot about the stories, secrets, memories, laughter, tears and a little bit of studying that is shared here.

Something even better then just hanging out with friends, is having food along, so many times we visit the place with the mind set to try something new but always end up eating the usual its the delicious spicy chicken fried rice or noodles, chocolate cake and doughnut. A lot of multitasking takes place here, everyone tries to eat, talk and laugh at the same time it feels like this place will be much more missed then college.

The food tastes good but it tastes even better when its a treat :)

Social media is usually associated with fun and making friends and posting pictures but did you know it can also be a very useful tool for students to build their career? Almost all platforms that are commonly used, Facebook, Twitter, Quora, etc and more can be used by students to their advantage. Considering the fact that about 70% of employers scan potential employees' social media profiles before hiring, it is imperative that students learn how to use these platforms from a career perspective.

Facebook: Sharing memes and pictures is what students usually use this platform for but building the profile carefully, adding skills and simple acts like liking pages that are of relevance to one's career choices can go a long way. It'll keep one informed of the developments in that particular field and also will create an impression that the person is really into that area of interest. The way the profile is built is also very important as employers usually search for a Facebook profile before anything else; so care should be taken about the bio, pictures, etc.

Twitter: Twitter can be a really powerful tool for students to brand themselves and create a social media image that's relevant. An easy thing that students can do on Twitter is to follow industry experts and keep tweeting to them or retweeting their posts. By tweeting about their projects and other industry updates, it'll create a good social media image for young, career seeking individuals.

Instagram: While this platform is not relevant for all types of professions, those pursuing a career in niche fields like writing, graphic design, marketing, fashion design, etc can make use of this platform to the maximum advantage. This platform is also apt for those who want to pursue a career in such fields, regardless of what their original field of study is as this platform enables easy branding. For instance, someone who is into graphic design can easily post their designs on Instagram or a person whose pursuit is writing can post screenshots of their writings.

LinkedIn: This is probably the most crucial platform regardless of what the career interest is. On this, one can directly get in touch with potential employers, get to know of what the industry trends are and more. Like Facebook, care should be taken in building the profile on this platform too. With the platform itself being a professional one, centered around careers, sharing content that is relevant to one's area of interest puts them one step closer towards landing a desired job.

Quora: This platform provides an easy way to showcase expertise in any particular subject, as it is based on answering specific questions posted by users. It'll also show up on Google searches, enabling easy branding for people who have a fair amount of knowledge in any given area. This is especially useful for engineering students wanting to pursue a career in the IT sector, as there are a lot of questions pertaining to coding and more. Answering them requires expertise, so it's evident to potential employers that a person is skilled.
"}]

Radio is one of the most common forms of entertainment in the world. A week cannot go by without someone in your family turning the radio on. Did you ever know that you can broadcast radio instead of just being a listener?

That is what a scientific activity amateur radio aka HAM radio is all about. Amateur radio operators aka HAMs communicate with each other over a wide frequency spectrum (radio spectrum) using many different types of wireless transmitting modes like text, morse code, voice, image, etc. When all other services fail HAMs can swing into action assisting emergency communication service during times of emergency.

"In a time when internet and social media didn't exist, HAM was the way one could go about networking internationally," says NIAR Executive Vice Chairman & Director Ram Mohan Suri who has been a HAM for more than 30 years now, having received his licence at the age of 14. “For me, HAM runs in my family as my father founded the National Institute of Amateur Radio (NIAR). " You should have a story when you complete your degree!", says Srinivas Aluvala ( CSE HOD- SREC). What's the story not college stories! Eager to know... here is a small conversation regarding with HOD of CSE department.

Qualifications and career:

Sir has done his schooling in the government school (HNK) and later completed his intermediate from Govt. Junior College (HNK). Then, he did BSC Mathematics in KDC(Kakatiya Degree College). In 2002, he joined MCA (Master of Computer Application) in Tushara PG School of Information and Science (Rampur - Kazipet, Hanamkonda) and completed in 2006. In 2007, he started his career in SR as an Asst. Professor in dept. of MCA(Master of Computer Application) and even served for CSE. From 2014, he was totally shifted to CSE and worked as an Asst. Professor till 2017. In 2017, he was appointed as Head of Department(HOD) of Computer Science Engineering department.

Now let's come to the point... Have a story when you complete your degree!

Sir says, "Having your own story is very important as it would be the proof of your struggle. These stories give good weightage to your resume and thus your resume will be lying on the recruiter's table rather than in the dustbin. From the 1st year, I have done this, in the 2nd year I have completed this technical course and done this, the 3rd year I have done this project by putting all my innovation creativity in it. These should be your stories revealed to the HR's when you face interviews then definitely the success will be your's!"

Academics+Other internships or creative projects in SRIX... It looks great to hear... but when comes to the execution - it seems like unable to balance both. So with this question in my mind, I asked how to manage time?

Sir says," As students, you are capable of doing everything. There is no question of time! As an engineering student when you come to college from 9:30 Am to 4:00 pm, completely dedicate time to listen to the classes and practice at least 1 or 2 hours - more than enough to get a distinction. Marks are only filtering criteria by industries. Percentages are neither criteria to judge or measure one's talent. Then what's your talent! Show me your talent in terms of professionalism. Do something different. Apply whatever technical things you have learned in terms of creative projects. That's what makes the difference! That's what makes you distinct in a cluster. That's what the talent. If you aim big and truly dedicated, you can manage the whole stuff."

txt
rich_1562759839315

Srinivas sir even says, " I know better about the mentalities of the students. Because I have even seen students right studying their schooling. While I was in my degree and PG, I used to teach Physical Science, Maths, Computers to school children(5th-10th classes). So, I know what's their psychology. Maybe some faculty have not experienced school children but I did. Students at that age will be really good. Though they may not be too fast to grab things, their eagerness and excitement are really appreciable! But, as they grow they are losing all that spirit. A student should always be a studious and explorer as he was at his schooling." You are growing! You should grow all those qualities! competency should increase!

By hearing all his words, I was like truly... remembering my school days... how actively I used to participate and learn... When sir was questioning me like, In your school days did you repeatedly quarreled with your teacher even for 1 mark? Did you work hard rigorously to secure those so-called 1st rank and 2nd ranks? Yes right! I think everyone would agree with me. That curiosity! That zeal to learn! should even be continued throughout our whole career, no matter what we are pursuing. That's what I have learned.

txt
rich_1562759839316

Sir thoughts and suggestions to students regarding programming skills:

I would say whatever programs you are learning... if I give the same thing to a 7th standard students... they will be able to solve or I can say that they can mug up in a better way! So here the point is that don't mug up the programs- understand the concepts, key up the logic and work practically. Nowadays due to the boon of the internet, learning has become easier. Everyone says - "I know Java, I know python"... But, how come you are able to solve and complete a full-fledged project by applying those skills you have learned!

So I would strongly suggest applying the things that you have learned in real time is a good idea. Because it gives a better and deep understanding of the technologies and helps in enhancing your skills. Active participation in different competitions like Smart India Hackathons, Abhivyakta... really would help in enhancing skills and those all the things that would actually be your stories.

At last, again I would strongly stress that You should have a story when you complete your degree!

That's what real achievement! The real Satisfaction! Ultimately the real joy!

Since the holiday season is at its end and college is going to be back in full swing in a few days (if it already isn’t), I thought it might be helpful to give a few tips for a better college experience and an overall lesser stress quotient.

College can be stressful with all the assignments, notes, labs, extra-credits and workshops, leaving less to no time for relaxing, fun, a social life and hobbies.

So the following are the many ways and apps that can help in keeping assignments and dead-lines in order and also help keep work up-to-date.

Planners/Study logs: These help in keeping the work in check and the timeline in which it needs to be completed in. Planners can be in the form of a book or an app, where the amount of work done can be recorded with the timeline of all the assignments and the submission dates. And most also have a place to save your time-table which always comes in handy.

Habit trackers: These help in keeping track of how much time is spent on what. This in turn help in time management and for keeping things on schedule and on track.

Question papers: There are a lot of apps for previous question papers that help in exam preparation and to give an idea about how to go about writing the actual paper.

Instagram: There are many accounts that give tips for studying and exams. They also have motivational posts to give a bit of inspiration when needed.

Podcasts: There are a lot of podcasts that have a lot for motivation and inspirational content when you feel a bit down.

Blogs: Following blog that post content for your field helps in staying up to date and in touch with the innovations and the new things that come up.

Internships app: one of the most important things about the full college experience is working in an internship. Having an app for this helps to see what the employer wants and the skills needed for a job.

Tips:

Plan your assignments and schedule study sessions. Limit the studying time to 45 minutes with a 15 minute break.

Pace your work and give enough time for relaxing, finish say 5 questions of an assignment per day and skim the days notes for half-an-hour.

Completing the assigned work in the set time help to save time in the end of semester to study.
Don't forget to exercise at least thrice a week to stay focused and fit.

Meditation helps concentrate and unwind. It also helps in improving memory and performance.

Keep a reflection time for 20 minutes or so, before you sleep to reflect on what happened today and what needed to be done the next day.

Finish the work at least a day before the submission date so that you can scan for any missing items and add them before handing it in.

Don't over work and exhaust yourself, getting good sleep and rest is also important in remembering better and having better mental health.

Kindly do not re-post my content without permission.

It was a random Facebook post by Sriram Karri that triggered the thought process that led to me writing this now. The post spoke about how many people are grieving the closure of Walden, a popular book store, without having bought a book there in ages. Having grown up in the Old City of Hyderabad in the 90s, Walden was the only proper bookstore apart from the Sunday market at Abids and it was almost as if I went to a different city altogether the few times I visited the place.

What Sriram posted is absolutely true and more so when it comes to students of the late 2010s. Most of the students now don’t bother picking up a book to read, going to a classic bookstore to browse through endless rows of books is perhaps something most students today have never done. Even the few ones who read, prefer buying online. That said, what is it that makes students run in the opposite direction when it comes to reading?

I feel it is because of a system that focuses on testing a student’s memory rather than a student’s learning and a system that puts emphasis on studying instead of reading, that we have an entire generation of students who seem to loathe reading. In some countries, there is extensive emphasis on inculcating a habit of reading right from the early years of schooling. Should a system like that be put in place in our country? I can just wonder.

Whatever I am today is only because of the knowledge I acquired by reading whatever I could get my hands on. I didn’t go to an elite school, I didn’t go to a top college, I didn’t do an MBA. What I am today, as the CEO of a student oriented startup, as a person featured in Forbes, as a known speaker and more, has been possible only because I read extensively. I just devoured books and newspapers, whether it was a Reader’s Digest or an editorial in The Hindu or biographies of eminent people or self-help books. I read them all and that is what I suggest to a student of this day.

With that, here’s a list of my favorite books that every student should read:

The modern computer science world is filled with programming languages like C, C++, Java and now the most popular language Python. Many of the CS students or enthusiasts always keep buzzing about these so called most common or familiar programming languages. But, being a CS guy myself, I was shell shocked to know that two programming languages now in their 60's still continue to play a key role in running many real life proceedings and to be precise there are two old, in fact two very old programming languages that still continue to exist even with this amount of technological advancement.

txt
rich_1563028970916

At the end of all the fancy talk about abroad studies and technologies like AI, the professor asked us whether we know anything about COBOL, like most of the modern CS students we had that null expression on our faces, other than just going through that name in some book or so we have no clue of what it meant. He just gave us a smile followed by a very brief info about it. After the session, I tried doing a bit of research but the so-called ignorance struck and I never went deeper to know more about it. The second time I heard that name is from an uncle of mine. This time I felt like it's better to know more about this not-much spoken about programming language. He gave me great info that let me to dig up more details about COBOL online, and that's exactly when I was amused to know about this language and also about it's vintage companion FORTRAN that is still out there. So, what exactly are these languages and why are they not extinct yet?

FORTRAN, which stands for FORmula TRANslation was designed by John Backus in 1957. The language turned out be a savior to programmers and other qualified people who spent many painstaking hours of coding with machine level or assembly level language. FORTRAN, termed as the higher level programming language took off to a huge success. It became extremely useful for researchers who are in need of performing complicated numerical and scientific calculations. They even found it easy as this language didn't demand any high end programming skills. The existence of this language even after 62 years is mainly due to the release of updated versions as the years passed by and the other important factor being it's feature of parallel computing. The language continues to be used for astronomical purposes, research in the fields of science and so on.

COBOL, which stands for COmmon Business Oriented Language was designed by CODASYL in 1959. Straight after it's design, COBOL has been incorporated in to many banks mainframe as they were in need for a sophisticated mainframe technology. That's where COBOL started becoming the backbone of all the financial operations and managing banks were dealing with. According to many sources, even now many reputed and very crucial banks have COBOL as their mainframe and changing their roots of managing from COBOL to the latest languages cannot happen overnight and it is ridiculously high price issue to alter their methodologies from roots. So, it is kinda clear that COBOL cannot be replaced that easily ensuring a secure future of existence and also a growing need for young COBOL developers makes it a promising career choice as well.

There are lot more things that one can know about these vintage programming languages and I have just scraped the surface when it comes to the information regarding them in this article. Hope this was useful to you guys and hopefully ignited your curiosity to know more about them...
"}]
