When to Apply for vacancies?
There are options to join after 10+2 , or after Engineering or in the final year of Engineering.
UPSC exclusively conducts written exams for the armed forces. These exams are followed by an interview by Service Selection Board (SSB). The SSB has high standards of physical and mental fitness along with Aptitude tests.

10. Officers are very well paid. The pay after training starts from 50000 INR per month and many perks and incentives like furnished accomodations to discounts at the canteens.

Officers are known to be thorough gentlemen. Chivalrous, charismatic and dignified in nature, they are well known to respect women. They are taught military English during the course of training. Men can opt for Short Service Commission or Permanent Commission.
Women in Defence
The armed forces hold women in high regard. Women are trained in combat too. They can opt for Short Service Commission and extend it to another 5 years term.
SSC and life after that.
Those who want to test the waters of life in the armed forces can opt for a Short Service Commission, the duration of which lasts for 5 years. They can extend it for another 5 years or opt for Permanent Commission. Once you complete a SSC, you become a sought after employee in Private Sector.
