The entrance season for management aspirants has arrived, yet the confusion continues, to go for a MBA or Post Graduation Diploma in Management (PGDM). If statements like 'A MBA programme is more promising than a PGDM' confuse you, remember it is a myth. Whether it is a PGDM or a MBA, the institute is all that matters; did you know even the IIMs offer a PGDM programme and not an MBA! The primary difference between the two is that institutes like XLRI, IIFT, NMIMS and many other reputed colleges which are not a part of any university offer PGDM courses.

A MBA follows a university curriculum where as a PGDM is designed by the institute within the guidelines of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) so all you need to check is how reputed is the college that you are picking to apply, the industry is open to talent and no specific weight-age is given to neither a MBA nor a PGDM. Back then a PGDM was not accepted as post graduation for higher studies like Ph.D but now there is no more ambiguity regarding this issue, now PGDM is equivalent to a MBA, nevertheless one has to be careful and verify if the institute's PGDM is recognized. To be more specific, the diploma course is flexible and is designed to meet the requirements of the industry and is more instrumental in seeking a specialization in your area of interest whereas a MBA gives you comprehensive view of the business world. The institute that you choose is going to be the Brand by itself therefore choose your list carefully.

txt
rich_1484554164370

Commut.co is a startup that provides shuttle services to the many professionals in and around Hitech City, both to and from their houses to office. Of the six co-founders of this fantastic idea, stuMagz caught up with Prasanth Garapati for a talk about the startup.

"We're all batchmates, bunch of friends that came up with this idea one fine day after Hemanth tried all sorts of ways to commute to his work, from taking an overcrowded bus, hailing expensive taxis and trying his own car before he gave up. Traveling 25 kilometers in rush hour traffic after a long and hectic day is nothing short of torture," says Prasanth, referring to co-founder Hemanth J Reddy's experience going to work everyday, "It was clear that the need of the hour was a method to go to office tension free, that's how we came up with the idea of Commut."

Prasanth, along with Hemanth Reddy, Charan Thota, Akshay Chennupati, Sandeep Kachavarapu and Srujai Varikuti cast off from the safe harbor of the rat race and dived head first into the world of startups with Commut.

"I'm still a student here at IIIT," Prasanth says, "I'm pursuing a double degree, B.Tech and Masters in Computer Science, and this is going to be my final year."

"In March 2016, we had about 10 to 15 shuttles and the demand was only going up, it was clear that there was a market for this, with people wanting to go back home without worrying excessively about driving themselves home or taking an overcrowded bus. Now, by December 2016 and even now, we have 70 shuttles and get about 1250 to 1350 bookings per day, across 100 plus routes around the city," he says about the operations, "it's cheaper than a cab, we offer fixed rates, and doesn't have the hassle of a bus."

On being asked what he would like to say to his peers, fellow students looking to start their own ventures, he says, "Do not be afraid to try something different, if you believe in your idea, and can back it up with dedication, you never have to participate in the rat race. Don't be afraid to choose the road less traveled."

Prasanth Garapati, along with his co-founders, are going to apply for the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards 2017. If you too are a student entrepreneur, register your startup by clicking here.

Here is the link for previous episode Muhurtham Episode 01

The train started to pick up speed and I could witness the city passing by. I stood at the door of the coach and started gazing outside..A minute after, I could sense a slum stench which toppled my sight. I saw an old man carrying a heavy gunny sack on his back with a wobbling walk on the parallel track. Black pigmented spots on his face with skin being peel is what I could see within a bit time sight. My thoughts immediately shifted to the seminar I had attended “More weight on the back of poor” by Anil Thakare, my teacher in one of my IAS coaching classes.
Since my childhood, I have a habit of counting the number of coaches the train has. Holding the support of yellow colored hand railing at the train gate I started counting from the engine. I am in the seventh coach from engine and the total being seventeen. I had bliss on my face for my pocket size victory in being successful in counting coach numbers.
I called mom and updated her about my journey. She enquired about the seat, she asked whether I bought a water bottle, she questioned about my dinner and about my luggage then finally she suggested to keep my journey ticket safe, the usual of embarrassing me all the times.Every call with mom each day realizes how selfless mothers love can be.
.
.
At 5:10PM train slowed down its speed just before kachiguda station. I decided to reach my seat and relax. I leaned back and checked whether someone occupied my seat.Train ran along kachiguda platform. All the passengers waiting for the train on platform reminded me of some old telugu movie in which all the followers would be waiting to receive their hero who will be standing at the door of coach. Honking from the chime of engine made me to take a move from the present spot.
“Train number ……” the same announcement with the same tone and the train stopped at its first halt.Passengers rushed to enter into the coaches. Every traveler has single motto to get a seat. Indian seats are always impartial they go with a transparent strategy “First come first serve”.
I came near to my seat and the mobile vibration paused my steps. It’s a call from puppy. I understood that she could have called to wish me a happy journey again. I picked up call holding the support of hand railing.

“ So are you missing me already?” ,I started the conversation without a hello..

“ Dude!!!” she started I was smiling inside; I could sense her emotion from her voice..

“hmmm””,I replied with a smile .

“Where are you now ?”She diverted the feel!

“I am about to reach kachiguda”,I answered.

“Where did you keep your bag “, an unexpected and unwanted question from her.

My thoughts suddenly alarmed whether I forgot any of my bags. I raised my sight diagonally to check whether all the baggage is on the railing. All my three bags along with a backpack are placed on the railing.

I took a sigh and replied “what!!!!”

“Abey where is your baggage?” a repetition..

I could listen kiran laughing over call and she is instructing him “navvaku (please don’t laugh)”“It’s on baggage railing”,

I answered this time.“Bava,I love your earphones “, Kiran shouted over the call.I doubted that I forgot my earphones..

“I will call you back “, immediately I disconnected the call and rushed to my seat.I raised both of my hands and took my backpack.

I hurriedly unzipped the bag and I have my ear phones in the bag . I cautiously checked my entire bag with a doubt.I found a new item in my bag... Many items ran over my mind as I confirmed that both of them have given a surprise gift.
It’s a carton box wrapped beautifully with green colour decorative paper. A white sticker on the top left side with a message “To the dreamer, from your dot dot dot ……………(It was not written)“ A red ribbon is tied connecting the opposite corners of the box.
I found a sudden brightness on my phone screen and another call from kiran. I did not wait even for a single complete vibration. I swiped oddly on my screen to accept the call.
“Bavaaaaaaaaaa”, I screamed to show my excitement…Many turned towards my side with a wearied look..
A complete laugh of both from the other end…

“I am unwrapping it “, I signed them that I am opening the presentation.

“No da!!! Keep the same in your showcase “, salty sarcastic reply from the fellow.
“Take a look now “,he ordered and disconnected the call.
Many passengers shifted their attention towards me voluntarily. It’s their interest on the wrapped one .I am sure they are more interested towards my gift than me.I sat at my place and started to unfurl the gift-wrap.
I separated the ribbon from the cellophane paper. I hurriedly removed the sticker and kept in my shirt pocket without my knowledge. I turned the gift in all the directions to find the best way to remove the cellophane without tearing the gift paper. Beginning from the left end corner, I made a careful attempt of unwrapping wisely.

It’s a red coloured one with some garment design work on it. Black border on all the sides made it a complete one. It is a photo album with richness.
Me being in the state of increasing excitement couldn’t resist opening the album.
“To the beautiful friend I ever had”, Sweetest lines with golden colored font and curved calligraphy. I moved my fingers on each and every letter of the wish.
It welcomed with a black and white baby picture of mine. A baby sitting on the chair with the thumb finger in mouth and laughing big.Though I have seen the same picture many times before, I still felt it as an unseen one when it was on this album.
The next being the one taken when I was singing “chitti chilakmma amma kottinda “ in my white and white uniform when I was in first standard. As I turned pages over the album I could find my own pictures of my childhood. It’s a challenge for me to look into my own pictures when I was in between the classes sixth and tenth. A boy with a round face, a high diametered tummy and unnatural growth of many of most of the body parts. I tried to be quick at those pages.
A picture of Sai, Rakesh and me with a saluting pose during our childhood tuitions is one among of my all-time favorites. Pictures with my family, my mother tying me to the tree as a punishment, all my childhood friends, the drama one where I was in a ghost role and many more…

The album is a collection of memories.Kiran picture in the middle of album remembered my intermediate days. It was the first picture I clicked for him in the basic model phone.
Then comes the picture of my graduation days. Every memory related to my engineering education is very special for me. Our college photo, the vertical bars in front of my administrative block, a common meeting place for us, and our 32-year-old canteen and many more made me feel nostalgic. The picture with my basketball team is another good memory. The pages continued in the same order showing my friends professors, teammates.
I started turning quicker as my mind said “Look into the collection first you can narrate each picture later”.The twenty fifth one was the one with my club team. Twenty sixth one being taken with my favorite professor.
.
.
.
Picture number 27 came into the line. I opened my eyes widely after looking into the person’s picture. I was immovable for some time. I observed a tear drop falling onto the picture. I abruptly closed after looking into the picture. Both my eyes looked around with shock unwilling to extend my calmness.Without a next thought I kept the album inside the bag.
“In your diary,Some pages are black too”, line gave by my dad was running in my mind.
I stood up and sat down looking to the watch again and again. I went to the wash basin returned back without washing my face. I took my earphones and kept it back. My legs started to vibrate without my knowledge. I could sense the uncontrolled nature of mine. I bowed my head down so that others cannot find my emergence state.I closed my eyes and after sometime I fall asleep....

My thoughts all at a once found an observation.Platform number seven ,coach number seven, total coaches seventeen and the picture is twenty seven . I questioned myself why the number seven is coming again and again.

“surya ….surya….” I could hear my name..

I thought I am in a dream but I am not!!!

.

January 15th is celebrated as Indian Army Day to celebrate the peaceful transition of control from the last British Commander-in-chief General Sir Francis Butcher to K. M. Cariappa. Since then, the Indian Army has been exemplary in the performance of their duties, winning wars and fighting till their last breathe so all of us could sleep peacefully. This article celebrates and remembers the adventures and sacrifice of the Indian Army and it's soldiers over the years.

1. Highest Battlefield in the World

The Siachen Glacier is the highest battlefield in the world, and Indian army's constant monitoring of the area with numerous patrols even in the harsh weather conditions, with temperatures often dropping to way below sub zero levels, and the fact that Siachen Glacier is 5000 meters above sea level makes our army the most experienced in high altitude and mountain warfare.

2. Grenadier Yogender Singh Yadav

Yogender Singh Yadav's story is perhaps one of the most amazing stories to come out of the 1999 Kargil war, it's so unbelievable that it has to be read multiple times. Not only did he go above and beyond the call of duty, he survived to tell the tale, despite multiple bullet wounds and grenades thrown in his general direction. He was instrumental in capturing Tiger Hill, by climbing it silently and killing enemy soldiers who had killed his commander and put bullets in him, and he did this without using a climbing rope, bleeding from bullet wounds, and eliminating hostiles in close quarter combat. His gallantry spurred the army on, which was low on morale since the enemy had the high ground, and they managed to push through and capture Tiger Hill top. He was believed to be dead until he was found recovering in a field medic tent, and is one of the very few recipients of the Param Vir Chakra who are still alive (it is awarded to soldiers who go beyond the call of duty and lay down their life as sacrifice)

3. The Battle of Longewala

Famously portrayed in the movie Border, this 1971 battle was instrumental for the Indian army by boosting our morale significantly. The reason is simple, 45 tanks and 2000 Pakistani soldiers advanced towards Indian positions and were held back, not by a massive battalion, but by 120 Indian Soldiers.

And we lost only 2 soldiers

It sounds unbelievable, but 120 soldiers armed with light machine guns, with the help of 5 Air Force jets (which couldn't provide air support in the night), took on a massive invading force and punched them in the face. Pakistan lost 500 vehicles, lost 200 men, dignity and 34 tanks, the highest abandoment of tanks after World War 2, while the Indian side only lost 2 men.

4. The 1967 Sikkim Conflict

Following installation of loud speakers warning India about a repeat of 1962's war with China, India ignored the Chinese installed speakers at the Nathu-La pass and started fencing the area. Unfortunately, China responded with machine gun fire from the other side of the border, causing 70 soldiers to lay down their lives since the pass had no cover. Following this, artillery strike into the machine gun camp from the Indian side caused a loss of 400 men for the Chinese, an understandably large number of men, which caused them to retreat and try the same dirty trick again just a few kilometers away at Cho-La. Despite initial casualties, the 7/11 GR and the 10 JAK RIF stood firm and forced the Chinese to withdraw nearly three kilometres away to Kam-Barracks where they are installed till date.
