The adventures of some characters  'a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away'. This is how Star Wars has been described by it's fans and creators alike. Probably no other sci-fi franchise has had such a huge cultural impact on the world other than Star Wars. The first film called 'Episode IV: A New Hope' was released over forty years ago and since then, every single film of the franchise has created records and achieved both critical and commercial success. Several video games, books, theme parks, etc. have also been created based on Star Wars. A series of new Star War films are also in the pipeline for the coming years.

All stories of Star Wars take place in a distant galaxy in the past, where all aliens and humanoids coexist. Space travel, and droids are quite common in their lives. All beings derive their energy from a source called 'The Force', which is an unique force field. Popular phrases like 'May the Force be With You' were taken from this. From pop culture to politics and science, Star Wars has made it's presence felt everywhere. At a time when Hollywood was mostly producing movies with deep drama content, Star Wars was one of the first which ventured into science fiction and their bet paid off handsomely.

George Lucas sure did a fine job with the writing as well. Each one of the characters like Han Solo, Darth Vader, Princess Leia, etc. have their own set of fan followings and fan made films. Star Wars made huge leaps in terms of visuals and graphics at that time. At a poll in the UK, a majority of the people revealed that the religion they followed was 'Jedi' ! Merchandising has also worked wonders for the film's producers and earned them huge revenue. All the above cases prove that Star Wars has indeed created it's space in history as a legendary franchise. George Lucas has left behind a legacy that no one else could have done.
