Probably no other topic in India other than reservations has given rise to so many debates, discussions, and even protests. What started as a goodwill gesture and an important step to curb casteism has eventually given rise to a grave problem. So much has been said about this topic, that there is seldom left to say anything against it. No doubt reservations have helped hundreds in India, and have shown light to deserving people, but what is unfortunate is that thousands are taking advantage of this problem now, leaving behind a lot of people stamped down by it, and cursing their luck.

Discrimination among Indians based on religion, gender, and caste, has continued throughout the passage of time. This was extreme in the old times, even during the colonial days, as a result of which the government decided to reserve seats for people from backward castes everywhere, ranging from colleges to jobs, after Independence. This was done taking into consideration all the inhuman acts and treatment rendered to the so called 'lower castes', which had been continuing since thousands of years. But after 70 years of Independence, we can say that this move has been a complete failure.

Taking advantage of the reserved seats, thousands of people belonging to the backward classes snatch away seats and jobs from many deserving candidates from general category, leaving them in distress. The problem is that these so called 'lower castes' are not in the same position like in 70 years back, and are in much better financial and social conditions. Cases where a rich guy from ST category has literally got a seat which a deserving general candidate should have got is happening everday in India. This is largely seen during competitive exams like JEE, UPSC, etc. No wonder India suffers from unlimited brain drain every year. In the 21st century, reservations should always be on basis of income, not caste. If not taken care of, this can be the very reason which would bring about the fall of a great nation like India.

txt
rich_1529993753160

In our lives, both happiness & sadness have some causes & impacts. Either we get happy because something favourable happens or we feel off when an unfavourable event takes place. In both the cases, there is a reason for that emotion to occur. But, there are some days when we feel low for no reason at all. We feel an acute helplessness & keep on wondering that why is it happening, even though there is no such perceivable reason.

1529913192690
txt

Such kind of mood swing should not be confused with depression-which is a medical condition. It is a general thing that happens in the lives of each one of us. The odd feeling of restlessness or anxiety can be experienced for a very short period of time or it may even last for several hours.

The reality behind this off mood is that it too has a reason which we generally can’t figure out. Sometimes the person in front says something unknowingly or knowingly that upsets us, a particular song we hear, a scene of a movie, a word or phrase that we read somewhere or anything like that establishes a link of related memories leading to an issue that still troubles our mind at subconscious level. That troubling issue could be anything like a goal not yet achieved, loss of something or someone, over attachment to a someone who treated you as a special person & later on changed his/her priority to new friends etc.

1529913192690
txt

Even though this feeling is quiet normal but if it happens frequently, then it may lead to depression. So, it is important to find out ways to deal with it so that it doesn’t interfere with our daily outcome & also the peace of mind.

We can’t avoid this mood swing because it is spontaneous but, the best way to overcome it is engaging ourselves with some activity that lets us forget everything around us. Example: I cook when my mood is off & by the end my dish is ready, I don’t even remember why I was upset. Instead of unnecessarily figuring out the reason which we literally don’t know, our mind relaxes & focuses on the outcome of the activity that we are enjoying. In this way our mind gets free from the rush of irrelevant thoughts.

In all our lives, we want to share everything when we come across with a person who listens to us without questioning which may even lead to lose our respect. Silence speaks louder than words. Silence is that one tool with too much power. Silence is refreshing in a way that nothing else could be, there is something deeply calming and actually fascinating about real silence. Silence is a complicated language.

Silence teaches us self-control and to be careful to speak out with comments that add real value to a conversation. Silence teaches reflection and independent thinking to attain personal improvement. Silence teaches us consideration of other people's opinions, thoughts, and actions. Silence teaches consciousness of our surroundings. Silence is inevitable resource of nature. It will never exhaust and it comes with huge price. Ironically, in future, people might pay to get it.

Sometimes Silence is the best thing that we can do to a hurting person. If we try to fix their feelings, we can make them feel being controlled. Altruism is when we tend to elevate other people's well-being, even at a risk of costing our own lives. A bright example of being altruistic or selfless is mother's care about the child. It's truly selfless and beauty of the human lies in it. Selfishness as well as altruism are both potential tendencies in humans. Their meanings can be conflated to the point of overlap, but that doesn't change their starting points. In life, things happen around us, things happen to us, but the only thing that truly matters is how we choose to react to them and what we make out of it. Life is all about leaning, adopting and converting all the struggles that we experience into something positive. Here is a story regarding the struggles in our lives (most of know this).

Take a carrot, an egg and a spoon of coffee beans, also take three bowls with water and put those three in the bowls separately and boil them for a couple of minutes. Later, take them out and touch them with your hands, you will see that each one of them reacted differently. The carrot went in strong and hard before boiling, but in boiling water, it became soft and weak. The egg was fragile, with the thin outer shell protecting its liquid interior until it was put in the boiling water, then the inside of the egg became hard. However, the coffee beans were unique and after they were exposed to the boiling water, they changed the water and created something new. Here, the same water can make the fragile egg hardened and the hard carrot softened.

Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?. May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy. The happiest of people don’t necessarily have the best of everything, they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.
So remember that, "it's not what happens but your reaction to it, that matters."

1529597869413
txt
