If you educate a son, you educate a person. But, if you educate a girl, you educate an entire family.Muskaan Ahirwar of class 3 is the best example of this.
Amidst of the crowd, narrow alleys and barefoot children stands ‘Bal Pustakalaya’ near Arera hills. It is this young child Muskaan who maintains this library. All the books are provided by the Rajya Shiksha Kendra, MP. This story of a little child started last December when the State Education Board visited their slum on New Year. They conducted a quiz competition in which this smart kid stood first. The officials were impressed by this and gave her the responsibility to maintain the library.Muskaan was more than happy to grab this opportunity.
Muskaan opens her library at 4 p.m in the evening. As she opens the library it gets crowded with children who borrow books and listen to her stories.Few children also read along with Muskaan and she helps them if they don’t understand.Muskaan also maintains a register so that she has a record of the books borrowed from her library.Neha Ahirwar who is her sister also helps in maintaining the library.Muskaan’s father is a carpenter and her mother is a housewife.
Currently, the library runs with 119 books and intends to get more books from Rajya Shiksha Kendra in the long run.Her mother Maya is proud of her daughters. She proudly says that she did not expect her daughter to the change the society. And, both of her daughters are excellent in studies.
