The advantage of being Indian is the proximity to various languages and cultures not just from across India, but also across the world because of our emphasis on learning English. This leaves us open for plenty of exposure to cultures completely new to us thanks to the lingua franca and the fact that, thanks to our diversity, we are more open to knowing about something from other cultures.

What else to showcase a culture other than its music? Therefore, this is a list composed (see what I did there?) of 5 songs from completely different genres that every student must listen to. Curating this list was extremely difficult for a music lover like yours truly, but nonetheless, I think I have arrived upon what, according to me, best encapsulate the fires of a young age through good times and bad from across the world.

And no, there will be no Electronic Dance Music in this list.

1. I Am A Highway by Audioslave

After a brief stint with the 90s grunge rock band Soundgarden, vocalist Chris Cornell went on to form Audioslave at the turn of the millennium. With the band gaining rapid fame thanks to Cornell's earthly voice and fantastically written lyrics combined with strong guitar riffs and drum work, it was only a matter of time before Audioslave would become stuff of legends. This song, I Am A Highway, perfectly encapsulates that.

The song is about overcoming adversity and putting the past behind to move towards change, and considering how many changes a student will go through before they become a fully functional adult in society, it is an extremely important song to remember.

Chris Cornell, sadly, took his own life earlier this year. His contribution to music will never be forgotten.

2. Enthavo by Job Kurian:

Coming back to India, Enthavo, a song written and performed by Kerala's fantastic Job Kurian, is a song about dreams, hopes and the road ahead. I was introduced to this song on stuMagz in fact, when another user wrote and uploaded a story about it not so long ago.

Capturing the vividness of dreams and wishing for something that wasn't there yet is a feeling that all students will identify with, which is why you'll love this song without even understanding the language. There are some feelings that simply do not need words to express.

The video for the song was shot completely with GoPro cameras and is an experience to behold. Check it out below.

3. Reviere by Issac Gracie

This slow and soft song is of the, what I like to call, 'killing you softly' genre. Gracie is an extremely underrated artist that deserves more recognition thanks to his beautiful voice and his choice of lyrics, especially with Reverie. If you've ever been in love, you will understand the pain of the lyrics when you listen to the song.

And let's be honest, everyone in college thinks they've actually fallen in love.

4. Drive Home by Steven Wilson:

It is difficult to choose just one Steven Wilson song for a list with only 5 songs, even more difficult to choose a moderately happy Steven Wilson song. Drive Home is neither his best, nor a happy song to listen to or, in this case, watch.

With students more open to listening to newer experiences in music and a general appreciation of good guitar skills, I just had to include Drive Home simply because of Guthrie Govan's fantastic guitar solo that manages to pull your soul of of your body into space, rip it apart and put you back, a broken person, but a person who has experienced one of the best solos ever made by one of the world's finest artists.

5. Khwaab by Thaikkuddam Bridge:

Another band all the way from Kerala, Thaikkuddam Bridge is a fairly recent band to the Indian music scene, yet they have successfully set fire to every stage they performed on with their absolutely perfect blend of rock with Carnatic and classical music. While most of their songs are in Malayalam, Khwaab, which is sung by two of the very best Ghazal singers from across the country, perfectly manages to bridge the gap between the North and the South, while also bringing their fusion to a wider audience.

I'm not nearly a good enough writer to describe, in ample words, the musical journey you'll go on when you listen to Khwaab. It is simply one of the best songs made in India.

Yes exams are showing up, but it doesn't mean you get tensed and anxious about it and spoil everything.
There will always be a solution for every problem. So yes even this does have a solution.

Here are a few tips for you so that you clear your exams peacefully.

1. Firstly, you need to be calm and learn not to overthink about everything in life. Just go with the flow. Study as much as you can, but do not over study it will only make you forget everything you have studied till then.

2. Next, do NOT be dependent on anyone else as in thinking that they will study and will help you out in the examination. Human beings nature is selfish, nobody thinks about anyone else above them. So help yourself by studying efficiently.

3. And most importantly do not keep referring to different textbooks, it will only confuse you but not do you any good. So stick to one textbook which you feel has all the information and you can understand it in a simple way.

4. The last thing you would wish for is that you forget everything that you have studied only because you panicked at the end moment, so do not panic, be calm and have a peaceful mind before appearing for an exam.

I hope these will help you out during your examinations and master it with amazing scores.

Good Luck!

I don't know about you guys, but being born in the early 90s, I was privileged enough to watch some of the greatest Sachin moments live on TV (and sometimes in the stadium), and lucky enough to see him go from a devastating batsman to a legend. I grew up with his legend, his legend being the legend of Indian cricket, the number of people he's inspired, and the sheer amount of skill and style he possesses.

Frankly there aren't novels I'm not willing to write for this man, and I frankly believe we are all lucky to be in the same era as the one where we got to see Sachin set the stadium on fire. So without further ado, let's take a look at his greatest moments.

1. The Desert Storm

India were facing the Australian side that was out for their blood, looking for the first sign to close in and finish the job in a match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The Aussies had hit a mind numbing 284 (come on guys it was still 1998), and put the pressure on the Indian side who not only needed to win the match, but also keep a decent run rate.

In walked Sachin Tendulkar in what would be the match that made him immortal. On that day, the Aussies saw the full wrath of Sachin's devastating batting. The wickets kept falling but the Bomber from Bombay did not falter, instead he stood tall, hitting the balls out of the park whenever and wherever he could.

Sachin went on to score 143, his momentum not breaking despite a literal desert storm interrupting the match. Shane Warne went on to joke that Sachin's batting on that day still gives him nightmares.

Imagine watching this as a 7 year old child. It was magic on Television, it was like watching all your favourite cartoons come to life, only this was real, and was some of the finest cricket in the sport's history.

2. Demolition at Centurion

The year was 2003, the World Cup's 36th match was slotted for March 1st, 2003, against arch rivals India and Pakistan. The stage was set, as it is with any match up with India and Paksitan, and the nation watched holding their breaths.

Pakistan back then had a lethal bowling line up, helmed by fast bowler Shoaib 'Rawalpindi Express' Akhtar, a bowler that has given even the most skilled batsmen a run for their money. But even he couldn't do anything against the Master Blaster, as Sachin hit boundary after boundary, scoring 98 runs in 75 balls, to deafening roars from the crowds cheering him on. It was one of Sachin's finest moments, pure class cricket and a treat to fans.

3. First To Score A Double Century In ODI

The turn of the decade saw many players smash the 200 runs milestone, but the first one to ever do so was none other than the Little Master himself, on February 24, 2010 in Gawilor, against the South African side, and what a blitzkrieg that was.

4. Sachin's first match as an opener

March 27, 1994 is a special day to anyone who calls themselves a cricket lover, as it was the first time we saw Sachin's devastating batting as an opener for the very first time. Having debuted in 1989, it wasn't until 1994 when he opened, after Azharuddin decided to let him open, seeing potential in the young batsman, against New Zealand in Auckland.

That one decision changed the history of cricket forever, as Sachin hit a smashing 82 of 49 balls, kick starting his legend. Sachin has since then always opened for Team India.

5. The 2011 World Cup Final

It was the day India wept, for it was the final match Sachin would play in his ODI career. Mahendra Singh Dhoni had no qualms about talking about how the world cup win was for The God of Cricket Himself, and the emotion, the adrenaline we felt as we watched it unfold, the speech at the end, and the happiness on everyone's faces, it was a day that will not be forgotten as long as there are cricket fans in the world. It was a magical moment, after a career spanning 21 years, 6 World Cups and 635 matches in all forms of the game, the victory lap after the electrifying 2011 World Cup final was pure magic.

Kapil Dev broke down on live TV, overwhelmed with emotion, everywhere on the streets, Indians celebrated a legendary story in making, people were out on the streets, hugging, dancing and smiling from ear to ear. On that day, we were all Indian. Identity did not matter, what mattered was the twinkle in your eye and the smile on your lips, something we all could use more of in this day and age.

Sitting in the corner of the balcony on a Saturday afternoon as it is raining heavily. This rain has some connection with me, maybe with you too. When it starts raining, mixed feelings gobble up inside us.

Some feel happy, some feel gloomy, some feel excited and smell the wet sand while some are frightened by the thunders and lightening. Some cry in the rain and some dance in the rain, some just stands still and get drizzled while some make hot chocolate and cuddle with loved ones.

The relationship I share with the rain feels like meeting an old bestfriend from long time. It gives me nostalgic feelings when I see it. It reminds me my childhood, friends , family, memories I made, mistakes I did, people I met and lessons I've learned. It's like an imaginary bestfriend who stands beside you and listen to what you say. Thanks for your presence where it can't be replaced by anyone!

You make me feel happy and say its okay! "Life is like a rollercoaster just enjoy the ride and get down when you reach your destination". Please come back soon to hear some more updates from me. Till then, will be waiting for you.
"}]

HACKATHON:

A hackathon is a design sprint-like event in which computer programmers and others are involved in software development. The goal of a hackathon is to create usable software or hardware with the goal of creating a functioning product by the end of the event.

The team of St. Pious the X Degree & PG College who won the Hackathon competition consisted of 8 members

1. Harsha Thette

2. Aishwarya Sebastian

3. Santoshi Sai

4. Ritisha Deshpande

5. Yamini Saraswathi

6. T.Tharuni

7. C. Sanjay Kumar (Mentor)

8. SingareddyPraneeth (Mentor)

"It all started in January 2019. One fine day one of our Biochemistry department lecturer (Padmini ma'am) informed us about the hackathon competition 2019.
Then we found a fitting solution to the problem statement which was Predictive Analysis to prevent damage of pharmaceutical equipment, which came under Emcure Pharmaceutical company" says Aishwarya a of the member of the winning team.

Description of the idea that won them the award

Many Pharmaceutical companies face a set of problems and one of the major ones is occurrence of sudden or unexpected damage in the commonly used machines in the industries such as agitators. Hence their team MACHINERY HOROSCOPE have come up with a solution to this problem.

They have used IoT based communication to detect these sudden damages beforehand using sensors which considers the threshold values of a set of parameters i.e. temperature, pressure, vibration and voltage of a particular machine used in the industry.

The set of data collected by these sensors of different parameters is being transferred to an IoT component (WeMOS D1 MINI)and this data is converted into displayable form which is numerical in order. This numerical values of all the parameters are updated in the App and the notifier of the App produce a notification when there is a difference in the threshold values.

Talking about their journey after that

“After we have submitted the idea, we received a mail stating that we have been selected for the finale round and that we had to go all over to Mumbai to represent the idea. With lot of discussions and day to day classes with our mentors on the idea, we became even more confident about our solution. Then we sent a confirmation email to the SIH website stating that our team will be present in Mumbai to continue our Hackathon finale Journey.

The Hackathon center given to us was Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research, Dadar, Mumbai. The institute infrastructure was mind blowing and impressive and we even interacted with few students there.
On the first day 2nd of March 2019 there was a welcoming session by the Principal of the Institute and other coordinators and student coordinators. Then we had a video chat with respected Sir Prakash Javadekarthe incumbent Union Minister of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. After the salutation we started with our first “Hacking” day. The participants were given respective tables with our team name mentioned and even coolers were provided as it was conducted on the roof top of the institute. We were provided with timely food and short snack breaks.

There was judging round 1 on the first day for which we explained the problem statement and our solution to it. We were given feed backs on our solution, on which we worked on till the next day morning 6am. . There was also a video chat with Prime Minister Narendra Modi that night where he interacted with hackathon participants from different centres. During the midnight hours we had zumba dancing to keep us active throughout the night, we were also provided with sleep rooms to take short power naps.
We worked continuously for hours on our solution overnight. Our mentors worked really hard on the programing part and continuously kept us motivated.

On 3rd March morning we had our breakfast after our overnight working hours and continued coding. The second and final judging round were conducted and the judges analysed our solution, explanation, the product design etc.
After the evaluation the ending ceremony began and the results of the Hackathon competition 2019 were announced. Our team name along with our college name was called out as we won the inspirational award. We were awarded with a cheque of 5000/-, along with a memento and certificates. We could really feel butterflies in our stomach when we were called out for the award, it was the best moment in this whole trip and also unforgettable.

On the day when we got selected for hackathon, we didn’t expect that we would actually go to Mumbai but our zeal to complete what we started kept us going forward and all the encouragement from our beloved principal and lecturers, paved our way to a joyful success”.

"I remember once being taught,to put boundaries on my imagination.

To never paint the land pink,to never draw a balloon lacking inflation.

They always said to hope for love and peace, but refused to pile the weapons no more.

Did they but forget Buddha's words:when there'll be no army, there's no war!

They said me to bear a tender patience, but my hope always ends in vain.

When the rainbow refuses to smile upon us,inspite of enduring all this thunder and rain.

They always adviced me to keep walking, but what if it's the wrong direction?

'Cause they said all humans are our brothers, but still discriminated us based on complexion.

They finally broke the long lasting taboo and, painted my beautiful green lands, red.

They told others that peace is the goal,no matter the living who are probably, by now dead.

I dreadfully await the much awaited sunny days, when this unbearable pain and tears will cease.

As I wonder tonight, how many more reasons to grieve, and how many more bombs to create "peace".

Unless you're working in slave camps, you too have the luxury of having two days off every week from the eternal running race that is work life. Of course, since most of you are students, you still have some trouble grasping this concept because for some odd reason, educational institutes in India firmly believe that a student does not deserve a life outside of the college and also put classes on a Saturday. But that is a topic for another day.

Having 2 days off every week is quite important, I'd say, because it allows you to appropriately slow and and take care of yourself before you can tackle another week full of irritating work obligations. I mean, Friday nights are for unwinding and partying, Saturday is for even more partying and hanging out with your friends, but then there is Sunday. What is Sunday for?

Sundays are your days. These are the days when you refuse to go out anywhere and stay home and on your bed in pyjamas and beg your parents to bring you breakfast in bread. Sundays are days you wish Swiggy had an option to deliver breakfast in bed, when you lie flat on your back and refuse to look at anyone or anything. These are the days you chill with just yourself, self reflect, and be lazy. As lazy as possible.

Sundays are the days when you completely and utterly channel Bruno Mars and his Lazy song, you become what Mars sings about in the song.

So unwind, relax, curse your Mondays and complain about lack of food to bedroom service, but make sure you let yourself slow down completely so you can tackle the hustle of Mondays till Friday evening, which is when you party and go nuts. So today, I don't feel like doing anything, I just wanna lay in my bed, don't feel like picking up the phone so leave a message at the tone. Cheers! "}]
