Atithi Devo Bhava refers to "guest is identical to god".It is a sanskrit verse. It is the ancient line taken from hindu scriptures and has become part of codes of conduct of hindu society. The host-guest relationship in India is truly one of the most revered relationships. Guest can come to you in any form. It can be anyone, whether it is your relative or anyone else. We should always remember that we should respect our guests. It is an old tradition of our India that if we have a guest coming to our house then he was respected a lot.
Earlier, when any guest comes to king he was worshipped like a god,a separate facility is provided for his stay. Many things were provided like good clothes, jewellery, good food etc,.This will remind us the story of Lord Krishna and Sudama. When Sudama came to Lord Krishna as a guest, he respected Sudama. So, when Sudama went Krishna gave him a palace to live in, which was a secret gift to Sudama.
India is one of the many countries which has culture and traditions. It attracts millions of tourist each year. As an attempt to improve number of tourist travelling to India, the Tourism Department Of India implemented "Atithi Devi Bhava " campaign with theme of Incredible India. This program brings responsibility to people about maintaince of our culture, heritage, hospitality and also epitomises the feeling of friendliness and kindness in people where everyone is welcome to share in beauty of country and delicious tastes of its food.
There is saying in Sanskrit that anyone /guest who comes to house seeking food is to be treated as Lord Vishnu. It is said that Lord Vishnu visits house to test their dharma.
In the end, I would like to say that, we should respect 🙏our guests and take some time out of our precious time and treat our guests with happiness. 😊
